X-ray analysis on the nanogram to microgram scale using porous complexes

X-ray single-crystal diffraction (SCD) analysis has the intrinsic limitation that the target molecules must be obtained as single crystals. Here we report a protocol for SCD analysis that does not require the crystallization of the sample. In our method, tiny crystals of porous complexes are soaked in a solution of the target, such that the complexes can absorb the target molecules. Crystallographic analysis clearly determines the absorbed guest structures along with the host frameworks. Because the SCD analysis is carried out on only one tiny crystal of the complex, the required sample mass is of the nanogram–microgram order. FT-Raman and QM/MM study of the interaction between histamine and DNA

The interaction between histamine and highly polymerized calf-thymus DNA has been investigated using FT-Raman spectroscopy and the hybrid QM/MM (quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics) methodology. Raman spectra of solutions containing histamine and calf-thymus DNA, at different molar ratios, were recorded. Solutions were prepared at physiological settings of pH and ionic strength, using both natural and heavy water as the solvent. The analysis of the spectral changes on the DNA Raman spectra when adding different concentrations of histamine allowed us to identify the reactive sites of DNA and histamine, which were used to built two minor groove and one intercalated binding models. Optical saturation thermal lens spectrometry in non-polar solvents

Abstract A model for thermal lens spectrometry (TLS) in partial optical saturation conditions which was previously applied to polar solutes in aqueous media is now checked with non-polar organic dyes and metal dithizonates in carbon tetrachloride. Some literature data are also examined. Most data can be consistently explained on the basis of the molecular structures, the sensitivity increasing with the capability of the solute to rapidly communicate the absorbed energy to the solvent molecules.

Spectroscopic Detection and Structure of Hydroxidooxidosulfur (HOSO) Radical, An Important Intermediate in the Chemistry of Sulfur-Bearing Compounds

The rotational spectrum of hydroxidooxidosulfur, HOSO, an intermediate of particular interest in the combustion of sulfur-rich fuels, has been determined to high accuracy from gas-phase measurements. Detection of specific isotopic species using isotopically enriched gases suggests that HOSO is formed in our discharge nozzle via the reaction H + SO2 (+M) → HOSO (+M). A precise experimental r0 geometry has also been derived from the isotopic analysis; HOSO has a cis configuration, but the subtle structural question of its planarity remains unresolved. The successful integration of in vitro-generated tissues is dependent on adequate vascularization in vivo. Human outgrowth endothelial cells (OECs) isolated from the mononuclear cell fraction of peripheral blood represent a potent population of circulating endothelial progenitors that could provide a cell source for rapid anastomosis and scaffold vascularization. Ab initio quasi-relativistic calculations on angular momentum and magnetic couplings of molecular electronic states.

Abstract We formulate an ab initio method of quasirelativistic calculations on angular momentum and magnetic transition matrix elements between adiabatic electronic states of molecules. Our approach is based on the construction of a state-selective effective Hamiltonian and transition density matrices by means of the multireference many-body perturbation theory. Pilot applications to the evaluation of B 0 + u → B ″1 u predissociation matrix elements in I 2 and interactions in the B 0 + u ∼ B 1 u complex of Te 2 are reported.
