Study of Mechanisms of Light-Induced Dissociation of Ru(dcbpy)(CO)2I2 in Solution down to 20 fs Time Resolution
2006
Mechanisms of the light-induced ligand exchange reaction of (trans-I) Ru(dcbpy)(CO)2I2 (dcbpy = 4,4'-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridine) in ethanol have been studied by transient absorption spectroscopy. Ultraviolet 20 fs excitation pulses centered at 325 nm were used to populate a vibrationally hot excited pi bipyridyl state of the reactant that quickly relaxes to a dissociative Ru-I state resulting in the release of one of the carbonyl groups. Quantum yield measurements have indicated that about 40% of the initially exited reactant molecules form the final photoproduct. A 62 fs rise component in the transient absorption (TA) signal was observed at all probe wavelengths in the visible regio…
Vibrations of a single adsorbed organic molecule: anharmonicity matters!
2010
Vibrational spectroscopy is a powerful tool to identify molecules and to characterise their chemical state. Inelastic electron tunnelling spectroscopy (IETS) combined with scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) allows the application of vibrational analysis to a single molecule. Up to now, IETS was restricted to small species due to the complexity of vibration spectra for larger molecules. We extend the horizon of IETS for both experiment and theory by measuring the STM-IETS spectra of mercaptopyridine adsorbed on the (111) surface of gold and comparing it to theoretical spectra. Such complex spectra with more than 20 lines can be reliably determined and computed leading to completely new ins…
Di-n-octyltin(IV) complexes with 5-[(E)-2-(aryl)-1-diazenyl]-2-hydroxybenzoic acid: Syntheses and assessment of solid state structures by 119Sn Mössb…
2007
Abstract Reactions of 5-[( E )-2-(aryl)-1-diazenyl]-2-hydroxybenzoic acids (LHH′, where the aryl group is an R-substituted phenyl ring such that for L 1 HH′: X = H; L 2 HH′: X=2′-OCH 3 ; L 3 HH′: X = 3′-CH 3 ; L 4 HH′: X = 4′-CH 3 ; L 5 HH′:X = 4′-Cl) with n Oct 2 SnO in 2:1 and 1:1 molar ratios have been investigated. Two types of complexes, n Oct 2 Sn(LH) 2 and {[ n Oct 2 Sn(LH)] 2 O} 2 , were isolated and they have been characterized by 1 H, 13 C, 119 Sn NMR, ESI-MS, IR and 119m Sn Mossbauer spectroscopic techniques in combination with elemental analyses. The crystal structures of n Oct 2 Sn(L 1 H) 2 ( 1 ), {[ n Oct 2 Sn(L 2 H)] 2 O} 2 ( 3 ) and {[ n Oct 2 Sn(L 3 H)] 2 O} 2 ( 4 ) were de…
A Comparative Analysis of the Electrophilicity of Organic Molecules between the Computed IPs and EAs and the HOMO and LUMO energies
2007
[EN] The electrophilicity index, omega, of a series of substituted ethylenes used in some relevant organic reactions has been evaluated from the ionization potential JP) and the electron affinity (EA) computed by vertical ionization at the B3LYP/aug-cc-PVTZ level. The corresponding electrophilicity values are well correlated with those obtained from the HOMO and LUMO energies of the neutral molecules. The good linear correlation found between omega(I,A) and omega(H,L)(LBS), and between omega(H,L)(LBS) and omega(H,L)(SBS) allows to confirm the use of the easily available B3LYP/6-31G(*) HOMO and LUMO energies to obtain reasonable values of the global electrophilicity index of organic molecule…
Analytic second derivatives for the spin-free exact two-component theory
2011
The formulation and implementation of the spin-free (SF) exact two-component (X2c) theory at the one-electron level (SFX2c-1e) is extended in the present work to the analytic evaluation of second derivatives of the energy. In the X2c-1e scheme, the four-component one-electron Dirac Hamiltonian is block diagonalized in its matrix representation and the resulting "electrons-only" two-component Hamiltonian is then used together with untransformed two-electron interactions. The derivatives of the two-component Hamiltonian can thus be obtained by means of simple manipulations of the parent four-component Hamiltonian integrals and derivative integrals. The SF version of X2c-1e can furthermore exp…
Nanostructuring Biopolymers for Improved Food Quality and Safety
2018
Abstract Food-grade biopolymers, apart from their inherent nutritional properties, can be tailored designed for improving food quality and safety, either serving as delivery vehicles for bioactive molecules, or as novel packaging components, not only improving the transport properties of biobased packaging structures, but also imparting active antibacterial and antiviral properties. In this chapter, the potential of different food-grade biopolymers (mainly proteins and carbohydrates but also some biopolyesters) to serve as encapsulating matrices for the protection of sensitive bioactives or as nanostructured packaging layers to improve transport properties and control the growth of pathogen…
Molecular association and dynamics in n-pentanol and 2-methyl-2-butanol
1985
Static dielectric constant, viscosity, density, ultrasonic and dielectric relaxation measurements are reported for two pentanol isomers (n-pentanol and 2-methyl-2-butanol) in a wide range of temperatures. The results show a different extent of H-bonds self-association in relation to the molecular geometry of the alcohol. The activation energies obtained from dielectric and ultrasonic studies are compared with those obtained from viscous flow. Such a comparison, together with the analysis of all the dielectric and ultrasonic relaxation data, show that in n-pentanol a correlation between viscosity and ultrasonic relaxation exists, while dielectric relaxation is not correlated with the other t…
Theoretical study of the derivative hydrocarbons of biphenylene. I. Electronic spectrum of the biphenylene
1969
The electronic spectrum of biphenylene has been studied theoretically. The investigation is based on the semi-empirical LCAO SCF MO method with various degrees of approximations. The results have been analysed with regard to the following two factors: (a) The difference in effective electronegativity between the carbon atoms in the four-membered ring and the other carbon atoms in the molecule. (b) The inclusion of doubly excited configurations in the description of the π-electronic molecular states. The theory satisfactorily interprets the excitation energies and the nature of the electronic transitions. The predictions are particularly affected by the inclusion of the doubly excited config…
Multinuclear Magnetic Resonance Study of 2,4,6-Triarylpyridines, 1-Methyl-2,4,6-Triarylpyridinium, and 2,4,6-Triarylpyrylium Cations
1995
Abstract The H, 13C, 15N, and 19F NMR spectra of 2,4,6-triarylpyridines, 1-methyl-2,4,6-triarylpyridinium and 2,4,6-triarylpyrylium perchlorates have been studied. The H NMR signals of protons 3(5) in the heteroaromatic ring are deshielded due to the polarization of C-H bonds caused by delocalization of the positive charge in pyridinium and pyrylium cations. Generally, conformational and structural variations affect the 13C NMR chemical shifts of all carbons in the heteroaromatic ring. Those of carbons 3(5) can best be related to the electron-donating or electron-accepting ability of substituents. However, both electronic character of substituents and charge of heteroatom itself are needed …

Their chemical shift assignments have been obtained by means of Pulsed Field Gradient (PFG) Double Quantum Filtered (DQF) 1H,1H correlation spectroscopy (COSY), PFG 1H,13C Heteronuclear Multiple Quantum Coherence (HMQC) and PFG 1H,13C Heteronuclear Multiple Bond Correlation (HMBC) experiments. A single crystal…
