Hypervisor-based Protection of Code

2019

The code of a compiled program is susceptible to reverse-engineering attacks on the algorithms and the business logic that are contained within the code. The main existing countermeasure to reverse-engineering is obfuscation. Generally, obfuscation methods suffer from two main deficiencies: 1) the obfuscated code is less efficient than the original and 2) with sufficient effort, the original code may be reconstructed. We propose a method that is based on cryptography and virtualization. The most valuable functions are encrypted and remain inaccessible even during their execution, thus preventing their reconstruction. A specially crafted hypervisor is responsible for decryption, execution, a…

SAGECELL: Software-Defined Space-Air-Ground Integrated Moving Cells

2018

Ultra-dense networks (UDNs) provide an effective solution to accommodate the explosively growing data traffic of multimedia services and real-time applications. However, the densification of large numbers of static small cells faces many fundamental challenges, including deployment cost, energy consumption and control, and so on. This motivates us to develop software-defined space-air-ground integrated moving cells (SAGECELL), a programmable, scalable, and flexible framework to integrate space, air, and ground resources for matching dynamic traffic demands with network capacity supplies. First, we provide a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art literature. Then the conceptual architectur…

Exploring use of activity monitors for patients with obesity during weight-loss treatment - a qualitative study

2021

Background Obesity is a major health concern in western countries. In Norway, patients with obesity can attend weight-loss programmes, which focus on changes in dietary and physical activity habits. Use of self-monitoring is advocated when changing dietary and physical activity habits for adults with obesity. This study aimed to explore the experiences of patients with obesity who used activity monitors while attending a weight-loss programme. Methods Patients with body mass index (BMI) > 35 kg/m2 with weight related comorbidities or a BMI > 40 kg/m2 referred to an intermittent weight-loss programme were recruited into this study. They were introduced to one of three different activity moni…

Cryptogenic stroke and atrial fibrillation in a real-world population: the role of insertable cardiac monitors

2020

AbstractThe incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in cryptogenic stroke (CS) patients has been studied in carefully controlled clinical trials, but real-world data are limited. We investigated the incidence of AF in clinical practice among CS patients with an insertable cardiac monitor (ICM) placed for AF detection. Patients with CS admitted to our Stroke Unit were included in the study; they received an ICM and were monitored for up to 3 years for AF detection. All detected AF episodes of at least 120 sec were considered. From March 2016 to March 2019, 58 patients (mean age 68.1 ± 9.3 years, 67% male) received an ICM to detect AF after a CS. No patients were lost to follow-up. AF was detec…

Letter by Wachter et al regarding article, "occult atrial fibrillation in cryptogenic stroke: detection by 7-day electrocardiogram versus implantable…

2013

To the Editor: We read with great interest the article of Ritter et al,1 which nicely demonstrates that the prolongation of ECG monitoring time increases the detection rate of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in stroke patients, a result that is in concordance with existing literature. One aspect especially drawn to our attention was the lower yield of the Holter monitoring during simultaneous ECG recording as compared with the implantable loop recorder (ILR). ILRs only store automatically triggered episodes and can detect only atrial fibrillation (AF) episodes of ≥2 minutes, whereas Holter ECGs store (usually semiautomatically analyzed) continuous recordings and …

Experimental Assessment of a Flat Sandwich-Like Self-Powered Detector for Nuclear Measurements in ITER Test Blanket Modules

2018

Neutron and gamma flux measurements in designated positions in the test blanket modules (TBMs) of ITER will be important tasks during its campaigns. Investigations on self-powered detectors (SPDs), a class of reactor flux monitors are undertaken in the framework of an ongoing project on development of nuclear instrumentation for European ITER TBMs. This paper reports the findings of experiments performed with an SPD in flat sandwich-like geometry. A detector with vanadium emitter is chosen for preliminary studies. Its irradiation in a thermal neutron field gives a proof of the principle of flat SPDs. It is further irradiated in the mixed neutron-gamma field of a 14-MeV neutron generator and…

International Scoping Study (ISS) for a future neutrino factory and Super-Beam facility. Detectors and flux instrumentation for future neutrino facil…

2009

Technical report by The ISS Detector Working Group; This report summarises the conclusions from the detector group of the International Scoping Study of a future Neutrino Factory and Super-Beam neutrino facility. The baseline detector options for each possible neutrino beam are defined as follows: 1. A very massive (Megaton) water Cherenkov detector is the baseline option for a sub-GeV Beta Beam and Super Beam facility. 2. There are a number of possibilities for either a Beta Beam or Super Beam (SB) medium energy facility between 1-5 GeV. These include a totally active scintillating detector (TASD), a liquid argon TPC or a water Cherenkov detector. 3. A 100 kton magnetized iron neutrino det…

The AD and ELENA orbit, trajectory and intensity measurement systems

2017

This paper describes the new Antiproton Decelerator (AD) orbit measurement system and the Extra Low ENergy Antiproton ring (ELENA) orbit, trajectory and intensity measurement system. The AD machine at European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is presently being used to decelerate antiprotons from 3.57 GeV/c to 100 MeV/c for matter vs anti-matter comparative studies. The ELENA machine, presently under commissioning, has been designed to provide an extra deceleration stage down to 13.7 MeV/c. The AD orbit system is based on 32 horizontal and 27 vertical electrostatic Beam Position Monitor (BPM) fitted with existing low noise front-end amplifiers while the ELENA system consists of 24 \…
