Also available from the publisher at: http://www.idunn.no/ts/tt/2012/01/art06 The article consists of two parts: Part one seeks to demonstrate (contra Bauckham) that Jewish monotheism in the Second Temple period was of a flexible character. It argues that Jewish writers in this period could attribute «divine functions» to figures beside God, while still feeling committed to «one God». The Jewish monotheism of this period was therefore not constituted by functions or characteristics, but rather by the exclusive worship of the one God. Tekst jest próbą analizy kilku publikacji Leo Baecka (1873–1956), niemieckiego rabina, myśliciela religijnego, lidera progresywnego judaizmu, m.in. rabina Gminy Żydowskiej w Opolu (1897–1907), gdzie w 1905 r. opublikował kluczową pracę Istota Judaizmu (Das Wesen des Judentums). AbstractJob 18 depicts the destruction of the wicked as a kind of ambush by “the firstborn of death.” Much of the discussion of this passage has centered on this figure’s identification, and whether one should look primarily to Ugaritic or Mesopotamian mythological traditions for its background. Yet the passage as a whole concludes with a reference to a single “God,” knowledge of whom is determinative for human fate. W artykule podjęto zagadnienie relacji między dialogiem kultur a dialogiem religii. Analiza pojęcia religii i pojęcia kultury pokazała, że ich treści są ze sobą ściśle powiązane. Nie ma religii bez kultury ani kultury bez religii. Dlatego pojawiający się czasem postulat zastąpienia dialogu międzyreligijnego dialogiem międzykulturowym jest bezpodstawny. Dialog kultur bez dialogu religii jest niemożliwy. Aby dialog mógł zaistnieć, muszą być spełnione odpowiednie warunki. Jednym z nich jest dążenie do prawdy.
