Tiedon omistaminen on valtaa : globalisoituvan patenttijärjestelmän poliittinen moraalitalous ja globaali kapitalismi
2008
How Should We Interpret Institutional Duty-Claims?
2013
It is rather natural to suppose that what we mean when we say that an institutional organization has a moral duty is parallel to whatever it is that we mean when we say that an individual has a duty. I challenge this interpretation on the grounds that it assumes that institutional organizations possess those characteristics or abilities requisite for moral agency—an assumption which I argue is highly suspicious. Against such an interpretation, I argue that we have very good reasons to suppose that the term ‘has a duty’ is used equivocally across individual and institutional contexts. In other words, the meaning of an institutional duty-claim is quite different than that of an individual dut…
The framing of moral foundations alters perceptions of ethical business practices
2015
Pressure to be both ethical and profitable can create conflicts. Morality is multi-faceted, and ethical perceptions of a company that chooses shareholder profits over avoiding community harm may depend on one’s endorsement of different moral foundations. Participants responded to different ethical dilemmas where companies chose shareholder profit over avoiding community harm. Across all studies, moral foundations influenced ethical perceptions. Study 1 found that endorsement of the moral foundation of harm avoidance was associated with decreased ethical perceptions of a company choosing shareholder profits over avoiding community harm, whereas loyalty endorsement was associated with the opp…
2021
Drawing on the contributions of some of the most recent and relevant studies on neuroethics and moral neuroeducation, this paper undertakes an analysis of compassion. In order to focus on the results of this neuroscientific research a reductionist naturalist framework is set aside in order to embrace the broader outlook of a moral neuroeducation that, firstly, refuses to reduce its normative character to the human capacity for evolutionary adaptation; and, secondly, seeks to locate within the brain the neuronal foundations for the development of a capacity for compassion towards those of one’s own community, and also those from outside it. Thereby, this capacity for compassion moves beyond …
2020
Amoris laetitia, the post-synodal Exhortation of Pope Francis, provoked varied reactions among theologians. Especially controversial is the question of the admission of divorced people living in civil partnership to the sacraments of penance and reconciliation and the Eucharist. The present text presents the main arguments of Polish moral theologians, which came to the fore during the discussion on the practice of sacrament for divorced and remarried people. The Polish theologians’ arguments cited are not limited to simply quoting the teachings of Pope John Paul II, but refer to important arguments from the theology of marriage, theology of sacraments and moral theology. The author indicate…
Ethica cordis
2007
Discourse ethics is the best foundation for the civil ethics of a morally pluralist society, but only on condition that it does not remain m…
