Between-group competition and human cooperation.

A distinctive feature of human behaviour is the widespread occurrence of cooperation among unrelated individuals. Explaining the maintenance of costly within-group cooperation is a challenge because the incentive to free ride on the efforts of other group members is expected to lead to decay of cooperation. However, the costs of cooperation can be diminished or overcome when there is competition at a higher level of organizational hierarchy. Here we show that competition between groups resolves the paradigmatic ‘public goods’ social dilemma and increases within-group cooperation and overall productivity. Nie bij, nie krzycz... O przemocy wobec osób starszych - przegląd badań

W artykule poruszono kwestie dotyczące stosowania przemocy wobec osób starszych. Zjawisko to staje się jednym z głównych problemów społecznych, z którymi muszą zmierzyć się m.in. pracownicy socjalni oraz specjaliści z zakresu pedagogiki (w tym gerontopedagogiki), socjologii, a także przedstawiciele służb pomocowych. Jak wynika z analizy danych statystycznych oraz wyników badań naukowych, skala stosowania przemocy stale się pogłębia. W opracowaniu zaprezentowano przegląd badań dotyczących skali i determinantów stosowania przemocy wobec seniorów oraz koncepcje wycofania moralnego jako jednego z czynników wywołujących zachowania przemocowe.

In the nursing literature, work-related suffering due to restricted moral agency is commonly considered under the concept of moral distress. This concept has resonated strongly amongst nursing scholars since the 1980s and has recently gained ground amongst social work scholars as well. However, the research on moral distress suffers from inadequate conceptual clarity; this has led to multiple and disparate ways of empirically studying the phenomenon.
