AIM OF THE STUDY The results from 56 patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head who underwent 66 uncemented total hip replacements were analyzed and compared with current reports in the literature on cemented endoprosthesis. METHODS In the retrospective study in 30 of those cases the Zweymuller and in 25 cases the HA-coated ABG prosthesis were used. In addition the results of 11 patients with a polyethylene Endler cup in combination with a Zweymuller stem are presented. The mean age at surgery was 48 years, the mean follow-up was 5.9 years. After the Ibandronate Osteoporosis Vertebral Fracture Trial in North America and Europe (BONE) study had demonstrated the strong vertebral and nonvertebral antifracture efficacy of daily and intermittent oral ibandronate, the Monthly Oral Ibandronate In Ladies (MOBILE) study gave evidence for an increased efficacy on the bone mineral density (BMD) of higher intermittent oral ibandronate doses (150 mg monthly) compared with 2.5 mg daily. Acetabular fractures in elderly patients are rare injuries, but their incidence is increasing. Poor bone quality due to osteoporosis and an increased operative risk due to concomitant disease are factors complicating surgical therapy. Literature does not provide generally accepted treatment protocols. In a 4-year period, 27 patients who were 65 years or older and who had an acute displaced fracture of the acetabulum were admitted to our department. Klinische Erfahrungen mit dem Kensey-Katheter-System - Komplikationen und Ergebnisse

Fifteen procedures have been carried out in 14 patients using the Kensey rotation angioplasty system. Sixteen occlusions of the superficial femoral artery, with an average length of 10.2 cm (3 to 24 cm) and one artery with multiple stenoses were treated. The following results were obtained: creation of a lumen, with subsequent balloon dilatation in eight out of fifteen procedures; in two patients the vessels were occluded shortly after the procedure, due to complications (one obstructive plaque and one haematoma); five perforations, three dissections and one peripheral embolus. The total complication rate was 11 out of 15 cases, clinical improvement was obtained in six out of 15 cases.
