Tertiary cytoreduction in the setting of recurrent ovarian cancer (Review)

2013

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecological malignancy, with aggressive surgical debulking and adjuvant chemotherapy as the main treatment modalities. Optimal debulking during the primary surgery is significantly correlated with prolonged survival. As surgical techniques and chemotherapeutic agents improve, more patients with prolonged survival may face secondary and tertiary recurrences. The role of surgical debulking in secondary cytoreduction (SC) is not clearly defined and is based on retrospective series. The treatment of patients with primary or secondary recurrences generally consists of second-line chemotherapy, but may be performed on medically fit patients in certain circumsta…

Citizenship Education at the Republican Schools in France: Comprehensive Review and Teachers' Points of View

2019

Citizenship Education at the Republican Schools in France: Comprehensive Review and Teachers' Points of View This thesis deals with citizenship education in France, a subject that has been on the agenda for some thirty years and the object of intense debates, especially in a national community deeply shocked by recent terrorist attacks. As there are but few studies on the subject, especially from an empirical perspective (Bozec, 2016), our objective is a comprehensive review of citizenship education in France. We explore how the subject is conceived officially and integrates national curricula as well as how it is implemented at school. In fact, we seek to answer the question: how is citize…

Nanotechnology Application Challenges: Nanomanagement, Nanorisks and Consumer Behaviour

2017

New emerging technologies are entering the society, which makes civil society the location for moral authority. Society is about the quality of human relationships; it is where people have to accept responsibility for the consequences of their actions; it is where the nano meets the micro and the micro meets the macro issues. Society belongs to all of us and everyone has his role to play. A new way of system thinking – nanothinking demonstrates technology trends from perfectness to non-regularity. The removal of current contradictions between regular and non-regular systems and the corresponding nanophenomena is the way to novel processes in the development of nanosciences and nanotechnolog…

Sobre la ?normalidad? de Auschwitz

2020

Abstract: Starting from the hypothesis, advanced by Horkheimer and Adorno, that Auschwitz was a possibility inscribed in the instrumental rationality of modern civilization, th…

El mito de Icario en la General estoria de Alfonso X

2013

This article studies the myth of Icarus as it is translated in the first part of Alfonso X's General estoria. Its analysis highlights aspects that are usually found in the mythographical episodes of the Alfonsine estoria, particularly linked with its possible sources and its internal characteristics. The latter ones are defined by the anonymity of the quote and an evident moral intention. Regarding the sources, if it is known that the mythography gets to the Alfonsine text through two paths, the gloss in the manuscripts and a mythographical work, the exact source or sources used by Alfonsine historians are still unidentified. I have begun searching where the elements that are found in no pr…

"Climate Change and Moral Corruption"

2013

In “A Perfect Moral Storm”, S. Gardiner claims that "the peculiar features of the climate change problem pose substantial obstacles to our ability to make the hard choices necessary to address it. Climate change is a perfect moral storm. One consequence of this is that, even if difficult ethical questions could be answered, we might still find it difficult to act. For the storm makes us extremely vulnerable to moral corruption". Here I comment on the notion of moral corruption. In particular, I discuss the issues of who is susceptible to it and of what sort of problem moral corruption is.

Climate Change: Who Does What, Why and How

2014

This chapter rehearses arguments in favour of the idea that individuals are subject to an obligation to engage in self-starting anti-climate change practices, and indicates what sort of practices individuals would have to engage in for that obligation to be appropriately discharged. It argues that these practices cannot be purely private; rather these must be capable of being interpersonally co-ordinated and when so, of effectively stimulating systemic reform. They must allow for effective signalling and learning; be compatible with individual moral psychology (that is, they must generate individual benefits, not just burdens); and demand of individuals no more than what their measure of per…

Employees’ Acceptance and Involvement in Accordance with Codes of Conduct – Chinese Business Behaviour vs. Western Compliance Management Systems

2015

Abstract More stringent anti-corruption and anti-bribery laws in the US, Europe and PR China as well as the current political anti-corruption-campaign in China force Western globally active companies to implement Code of Conducts at their subsidiaries worldwide – thus also in China. There are mixed results of existing academic research on the impact of Codes of Conduct regarding ethical behaviour of the employees in connection with these Codes. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the motivation and intention of employees to accept and act according to a local Code of Conduct. This research is conducted in a cross-cultural setting (PR China, Germany, Austria) by ta…

Life satisfaction and tax morale: The role of trust in government and cultural orientation

2022

Taxes are essential for a government to function correctly, because they fund public services and promote long-term growth in a country. Tax morale is a positive attitude toward taxation shaped by extrinsic and intrinsic motivations, including numerous psychological factors. However, these factors are far from completely clear and a better understanding of what drives tax morale can greatly help governments in the design of tax policies and their administration. In this paper we test the novel hypothesis that life satisfaction is one of the psychological aspects affecting tax morale. Using longitudinal data from the World Value Survey, we show that people more satisfied with their own life …
