Cynical speech is a proper form of manifestation of what we call cynicism. It takes the form of a persuasive strategy which assumes the achievement of the rhetorical consubstantiation of a cynical speaker and her/his auditorium. Cynical speech is a game that takes place between three sides: a cynical speaker posing as an immoralist, a moralist and an auditorium, the acquisition of which is the aim of both interlocutors. The task of this study is to listen to the moral voice of István Bibó, a Hungarian democrat. Listening to past ‘voices’ is an approach of intellectual history introduced by Stefan Collini, who has eavesdropped on the conversations of ‘public moralists’ in the British intellectual life from the period c. 1850–1950. What has been translated of and written on Bibó’s thought in Hungary – irrespective of a couple of notable exceptions not much is found abroad – is very ‘Hungarian’ in tone in particular, note the very productive workshop (Bibó Szellemi Műhely), whereas I have tried independently to develop Collini’s approach. · The Novel as an End. A Comparative Study of the Works of Walter Siti and Michel Houellebecq · This essay questions the possibility of a comparative study of Siti and Houellebecq’s works. It identifies a point of contact in the common representation of the End as a preferred lens for the study of the individual: both authors represent contemporary society from a strong apocalyptic point of view. The relationships between the two authors are analyzed starting from the recognition of three thematic areas: the link between sex and money in the representation of desire; the disappearance of a religious horizon, followed by the most total nihilism; and a deliberately immoralist way of narrating.

Charles L. Stevenson w swoim dobrze znanym artykule pt. Persuasive definitions wprowadza pojęcie definicji perswazyjnej – narzędzia argumentacyjnego, które umożliwia mówcy zmianę preferencji i postawy słuchaczy poprzez zmianę treści pojęciowej (znaczenia opisowego) definiowanego słowa. Na marginesie tej analizy wprowadzone zostaje także pojęcie quasi-definicji perswazyjnej. Dzięki temu narzędziu zmieniającym znaczenie pojęciowe, można zmienić lub zniszczyć znaczenie emotywne quasi-definiowanego słowa.
