Trunk kinematics during cross country sit-skiing ergometry: Skiing strategies associated to neuromusculoskeletal impairment

Since trunk function plays a major role in propulsion in sit-skiers and athletes belonging to distinct classes have different abilities to control trunk muscles, the aim of this study is to evaluate how athletes personalized their skiing strategy to compensate their impairment and improve skiing effectiveness. Sixteen Paralympic sit-skiers belonging to different classes volunteered as participant. Lumbar mobility in former élite male weight-lifters, soccer players, long-distance runners and shooters

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the long-term effects of different loading conditions in sports and work on lumbar mobility. DESIGN: Factors associated with lumbar mobility were sought by examining sports experience, occupational history, back pain history, anthropometric characteristics, and lumbar magnetic resonance images in 114 former Finnish male élite athletes: 30 soccer players, 29 weight-lifters, 27 long-distance runners, and 28 shooters, aged 45-68 yr. Eye Kinematics of Athletes in Non-Familiar Sports Situations

Biological motion can hardly be imitated, starting from how a person observes and learns motor behaviour. We recorded eye movements of 13 female ball games athletes and 13 age-matched controls observing videos of unfamiliar sports. The athletes are better at alternating between faster and slower eye movement modalities. They initially use longer but fewer fixations than the non-athletes.

Contribution of area 19 to the foreground-background-interaction of the cat: an analysis based on single cell recordings and behavioural experiments.

The contribution of area 19 to pattern discrimination in the cat was studied by single cell recordings in this area and by behavioural experiments before and after bilateral lesions. In order to make quantitative comparisons between behavioural performance and that of cell systems, we introduced a new parameter that characterizes visual neurons by their signal-to-noise (S/N) thresholds. European vestibular experiments on the Spacelab-1 mission: 7. Ocular counterrolling measurements pre- and post-flight.

The static ocular counterrolling (OCR) of the four scientific crew members in the first Spacelab mission was measured during baseline-data-collection before and after the flight of SL-1. It was presumed that the modification of otolithic responses during spaceflight will be reflected in specific changes of the OCR-gain on the first days after recovery. The magnitude of OCR was determined analysing colour-transparencies of subjects right eyes that were produced in different positions of lateral body tilt. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy features at cardiac magnetic resonance

Abstract Diagnosis of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is based on clinical symptoms, electrocardiographic changes, absence of angiographic significant coronary lesions and presence of suggestive wall motion abnormalities. CardioMRI is an useful complementary tool especially to role out the diagnosis of myocarditis and of myocardial infarction with angiographically normal coronary artery and to document complications of the disease.
