Sex-specific genetic differences in endurance swimming of Trinidadian guppies.
2015
Abstract Swim performance is considered a main fitness‐determining trait in many aquatic organisms. Swimming is generally the only way most aquatic prey can escape predation, and swimming capacity is directly linked to food capture, habitat shifts, and reproduction. Therefore, evolutionary studies of swim performance are important to understand adaptation to aquatic environments. Most studies, however, concentrate on the importance of burst‐swim responses to predators, and little is known about its effect on endurance. Even fewer studies associate differences in organism swim capabilities to key gender‐specific responses. In this experiment, we assess the gender‐specific genetic basis of sw…
A cross-cultural study using Napping (R): Do Korean and French consumers perceive various green tea products differently?
2013
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/foodres ; WOS:000323239400065; International audience; With the increasing demands of global trading, interests in cross-cultural comparisons have increased to gain understanding in the differences of sensory perception and consumer acceptability. The objective of this study was to compare the differences in perception by Korean and French consumers of green tea produced in Korea, China, and Japan, using Napping (R) followed by ultra flash profile. In addition, overall acceptability was examined in both countries. The results of Napping (R) showed that the Korean consumers were able to discriminate the green teas according to their origins and processing metho…
IEEE Std. 1459 power quantities ratio approaches for simplified harmonic emissions assessment
2018
The paper investigates the suitability of using power ratio parameters for harmonic emissions assessment at the point of common coupling (PCC). The study is carried out starting from the IEEE Std. 1459-2010 apparent power decomposition, where power factors are defined for evaluating line utilization and harmonic pollution levels. In addition, the study investigates the behavior of new parameters, which are expressed in terms of ratio between IEEE Std. 1459-2010 power quantities. The study is carried out for both single-phase and three-phase case, also considering the presence of capacitors. ? 2018 IEEE.
Anomalous electrical parameters improvement in Ruthenium DSSC
2018
. In this work, we present a series of measurements carried out on Ruthenium-based Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) after the application of different external electrical field values. Such measurements have been performed both in the dark and by illuminating the sample with sunlight emitted by a solar simulator (AM1.5G spectrum with a power irradiance of 1000 W/m2). Our results demonstrate that the initial electrical bias field modifies in both cases the behavior of the cell in terms of an anomalous improvement of the main electrical parameters.
Player perceptions of informal learning in non-educational games
2022
The potential of non-educational games in learning is well-established, but there have been relatively few empirical studies attempting to explore the kinds of informal learning take place in non-educational games outside of formal education. Simultaneously, student motivation is known to have a connection to learning outcomes, but there is a lack of research on the relationship between gaming motivations and informal learning in games. This paper aims to fill the gap in research by, firstly, forming an empirically-based understanding of what players perceive they are learning from playing non-educational games, and secondly, exploring the potential connections of self-articulated learning …
Sposoby vyraženiâ položitelʹnyh èmocij v Internete
2021
The Internet as a new means of communication promotes the emergence of new ways of expressing thoughts and emotions. Our brief analysis of the techniques for verbalizing positive emotions on the Internet shows that Internet users have found ways to solve these problems. The graphic and lexical means they use allow them to express the entire range of experiences. Prolongation and chanting replace phonetic means, emoticons convey facial expressions, duplicated punctuation marks express the power of emotions. The statements of Internet users are characterized by brevity, because saving time is also one of the features of communication in the virtual space. It should be noted, however, that thi…
The Development of Intercultural Relationships at Work: Polish Migrant Workers in Finland
2013
This article offers an interpersonal communication perspective on relational processes in a workplace affected by the international flow of labor migration. We investigate how temporary migrant workers and their foreign colleagues perceive developing interpersonal relationships with each other through an analysis of in-depth interviews with employees of a Finnish recruitment agency and Polish metal workers it has recruited. The recruitment agents talk about their relationships with the recruited Polish workers; the Polish workers also describe their relationships with their Finnish colleagues at the customer company. The context under investigation emerges as rich in relational processes. T…
Driver Distraction Detection Using Bidirectional Long Short-Term Network Based on Multiscale Entropy of EEG
2022
Driver distraction diverting drivers' attention to unrelated tasks and decreasing the ability to control vehicles, has aroused widespread concern about driving safety. Previous studies have found that driving performance decreases after distraction and have used vehicle behavioral features to detect distraction. But how brain activity changes while distraction remains unknown. Electroencephalography (EEG), a reliable indicator of brain activities has been widely employed in many fields. However, challenges still exist in mining the distraction information of EEG in realistic driving scenarios with uncertain information. In this paper, we propose a novel framework based on Multi-scale entrop…
Modeling and improvement of the tricycle braking system for controlled skidding
2021
In the current paper was approached the braking system of tricycles for controlled skidding, which are used by lovers of extreme sports. The complete modeling of such a tricycle has been performed and its braking system has been improved for a great performance and a better controlled braking. Also, simulation tests were performed using the finite element to achieve the best constructive variant of the brake disc.
