A four-node MITC finite element for magneto-electro-elastic multilayered plates

2013

An isoparametric four-node finite element for multilayered magneto-electro-elastic plates analysis is presented. It is based on an equivalent single-layer model, which assumes the first order shear deformation theory and quasi-static behavior for the electric and magnetic fields. First, the electro-magnetic state of the plate is determined in terms of the mechanical primary variables, namely the generalized displacements, by solving the strong form of the magneto-electric governing equations coupled with the electro-magnetic interface continuity conditions and the external boundary conditions. In turn, this result is used into the layers constitutive law to infer the equivalent single-layer…

Palladium supported on Halloysite-triazolium salts as catalyst for ligand free Suzuki cross-coupling in water under microwave irradiation

2015

Abstract Environmental friendly halloysite-dicationic triazolium salts (second generation) obtained by subsequent click reactions of a diyne derivative in the presence of 2-azidopropyl-modified halloysite nanotubes, were used as supports for palladium catalyst. Thanks to the high triazolium loading (25%) these materials were able to support higher amount of the metal than that on the monocationic derivative (first generation). Such materials were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy and SEM investigations. The new catalytic system was employed in the ligand free Suzuki cross-coupling under microwave irradiation. A set of solvent, time and% loading of palladium was…

ACTIVE HOUSE PROTOCOL APPLICATION IN MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE : an energy-efficient kindergarden in Coppito

2022

Detection of disbonds in multilayer structures by laser-based ultrasonic technique

2008

Adhesively bonded multi-layer structures are frequently used, mostly in the aerospace industry, for their structural efficiency. Nondestructive evaluation of bond integrity in these types of structures, both after manufacturing and for periodic inspection during service, is extremely important. A laser-based ultrasonic technique has been evaluated for non-contact detection of disbonds in aluminum multi-layer structures. Two configurations have been used to detect disbonded areas: pitch-catch with unidirectional guided wave scan and through-transmission with bidirectional scan. Guided wave scanning was done with a laser line source and air-coupled transducer sensing at 500 kHz, 1 ;MHz, and 2…

Solving ultrasonic ray tracing in parts with multiple material layers through Root-Finding methods

2022

Ultrasonic testing has been used for material analysis and inspection since 1930's. Nevertheless, the applicability of ultrasonic waves to new complex cases is still growing, thanks to the availability of powerful electronics and software. However, the complication that slows down the deployment of ultrasonic inspection to geometric complex parts and structures arises from the wave refraction phenomenon. A clear understanding of the ultrasound wave propagation, impacted by refractions, is crucial to interpret the data obtained from the inspection of multi-layered/multi-medium test subjects as it is not always possible to assume that mechanical waves travel in straight lines. This work prese…

Studying Nucleosomes Positioning by a Multi-Layer Model

2007

Eukaryotic DNA is packaged into a highly compact and dynamic structure called chromatin. While this packaging allows the cell to organize a large and complex genome in the nucleus, it can also block the access of transcription factors and other proteins to DNA. Nucleosomes are the fundamental repeating units of eukaryotic chromatin. Nucleosome position can be regulated in vivo by multi-subunit chromatin remodeling complexes, and their position can influence gene expression in eukaryotic cells. Alterations in chromatin structure, and hence in nucleosome organization, can result in a variety of diseases, including cancer, highlighting the need to achieve a better understanding of the molecula…

A multi-layer method to study genome-scale positions of nucleosomes

2009

AbstractThe basic unit of eukaryotic chromatin is the nucleosome, consisting of about 150 bp of DNA wrapped around a protein core made of histone proteins. Nucleosomes position is modulated in vivo to regulate fundamental nuclear processes. To measure nucleosome positions on a genomic scale both theoretical and experimental approaches have been recently reported. We have developed a new method, Multi-Layer Model (MLM), for the analysis of nucleosome position data obtained with microarray-based approach. The MLM is a feature extraction method in which the input data is processed by a classifier to distinguish between several kinds of patterns. We applied our method to simulated-synthetic and…

A discontinuous Galerkin formulation for variable angle tow composite plates higher-order theories

2020

A discontinuous Galerkin formulation for the mechanical behaviour of Variable Angle Tow multi-layered composite plates is presented. The starting point of the formulation is the strong form of the governing equations, which are obtained by means of the Principle of Virtual Displacement, the Generalized Unified Formulation and the Equivalent Single Layer assumption for the mechanical behaviour of the whole assembly. To obtain the corresponding discontinuous Galerkin formulation, an auxiliary flux variable is introduced and the governing equations are rewritten as a first-order system of partial differential equations. To link neighbouring mesh elements, suitably defined numerical fluxes are …

The Application of Different Model of Multi-Layer Perceptrons in the Estimation of Wind Speed

2012

Wind speed forecasting is essential for effective planning of wind energy exploitation projects. The ability to predict short-term wind speed is a prerequisite for all the operators of the wind energy sector. Consequently it is essential to identify an efficient method for forecasts. In this paper, the wind speed in the province of Trapani (Sicily) is modeled by artificial neural network. Several model of neural network were generated and compared through error measures. Simulation results show that the estimated values of wind speed are in good agreement with the values measured by anemometers..
