Benefits of learning technologies in medical training, from full-scale simulators to virtual reality and multimedia presentations
2010
The rapid growth of technology provides a wide range of new learning tools such as multimedia presentations of materials, interactive animated images for anatomy learning, 3-D models, full-scale (FS) patient simulators, and microworld training software, which are virtual reality tools that include high-level interactive haptic properties. These new learning approaches have been recently used in medical training and education.

Diversification of adult education with the help of video lectures
2010
For some years now, adult education and working while studying have had an important role in the modern society. Mature-age study brings with it some special features, such as time use limitations, which must be taken into account when creating educational programmes for the students concerned. Above all, flexibility must become a major feature of participation in education. In relation to the Master Studies in Mathematical Information Technology at Kokkola University Consortium, the aim for some years now has been to increase that flexibility by diversifying traditional lecture teaching with the help of real-time and on-demand video lectures. With the help of the results presented in this …
Developing a web-based system to create, deliver and assess language proficiency within the PAULEX Universitas Project
2011
This study aims to examine the feasibility of a number of technical solutions implemented in a web-based system designed for the creation and management of online language exams within PAULEX Universitas, a project for the development of an online platform to design, deliver and assess the foreign language exam within the Spanish national University Entrance Examination. The paper provides an overview of the context and a discussion of current changes in Spanish ministerial policies, followed by a description of the PAULEX testing platform and a discussion on the technological solutions adopted. Lastly, the paper reflects upon a quantitative analysis derived from a pilot experience conducte…
Using Factor Analysis Techniques to Find Out Objective Video Quality Metrics for Live Video Streaming over Cloud Mobile Media Services
2016
The increased adoption of smartphones, the access to mobile broadband networks and the availability of public Clouds allow new multimedia services, called Cloud Mobile Media Services. Under this new architecture the proliferation of live video streaming applications and the Quality of Experience (QoE) given by the final user are an issue, due to the higher and variable delay, as result of the virtualization methods used in the Clouds. Thus in this paradigm new challenges appear related to keep and estimate a good QoE in terms of a standarized subjective video quality called Mean Opinion Score (MOS). In this paper we analyze different approaches based on Factor Analysis techniques to estimat…
Sources of Dissatisfaction: Mobile Interaction with the Real World and Other Mobile Internet Applications
2013
Current consumer-level mobile Internet applications involve many potential sources of dissatisfaction. Studying these sources is necessary, especially for newer application areas such as mobile interaction with the real world. This study combined previous studies to form a categorization framework of dissatisfaction sources and gathered qualitative data using critical incident technique and overall evaluation questionnaire to describe the sources in detail. This article proposes insights into characteristics, temporality, and combinations of sources. peerReviewed
On Internet of Things Programming Models
2016
In this paper, we present the review of existing and proposed programming models for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The requests by the economy and the development of computer technologies (e.g., cloud-based models) have led to an increase in large-scale projects in the IoT area. The large-scale IoT systems should be able to integrate diverse types of IoT devices and support big data analytics. And, of course, they should be developed and updated at a reasonable cost and within a reasonable time. Due to the complexity, scale, and diversity of IoT systems, programming for IoT applications is a great challenge. And this challenge requires programming models and development systems at …

Unificación de enseñanzas relacionadas con el Tratamiento Digital de Señales en la Universitat de València
2011
Teaching Digital Signal Processing (DSP) at the University of Valencia takes place in several subjects with a great overlap in contents. This work proposes an approach to unify DSP contents, so that it is possible to extract the contents corresponding with each subject. Moreover, the proposal is based on a repository that contains the common contents; the repository is hosted on a virtual learning environment, being Moodle and DotLRN the two platforms under study. The final implemented solution consists in an HTMLrepository formed by a number of basic teaching units. These basic units are packaged in a standard IMS-CP format, making up the materials of the different subjects.
