Factors Associated with Decisions for Initial Dosing, Up-Titration of Propiverine and Treatment Outcomes in Overactive Bladder Syndrome Patients in a…
2021
Two doses of propiverine ER (30 and 45 mg/d) are available for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome. We have explored factors associated with the initial dosing choice (allocation bias), the decision to adapt dosing (escalation bias) and how dosing relative to other factors affects treatment outcomes. Data from two non-interventional studies of 1335 and 745 OAB patients, respectively, receiving treatment with propiverine, were analyzed post-hoc. Multivariate analysis was applied to identify factors associated with dosing decisions and treatment outcomes. Several parameters were associated with dose choice, escalation to higher dose or treatment outcomes, but only few exhibited…
The size and shape of shells used by hermit crabs: A multivariate analysis of Clibanarius erythropus
2009
Shell attributes such as weight and shape affect the reproduction, growth, predator avoidance and behaviour of several hermit crab species. Although the importance of these attributes has been extensively investigated, it is still difficult to assess the relative role of size and shape. Multivariate techniques allow concise and efficient quantitative analysis of these multidimensional properties, and this paper aims to understand their role in determining patterns of hermit crab shell use. To this end, a multivariate approach based on a combination of size-unconstrained (shape) PCA and RDA ordination was used to model the biometrics of southern Mediterranean Clibanarius erythropus populatio…
Anthropological investigation of a Kurdish village population from south-eastern Turkey. I. Regional comparison of morphological features
1988
The paper is dealing with an anthropological investigation of a Kurdish village population from southern Turkey. We especially attached importance on the complete registration of all inhabitants to get a reliable sample for regional comparison of morphological features. Anthropological data of other Kurdish population groups are used for univariate and multivariate analysis. The resulting clusters are discussed beside the question of representation under the standpoint of regional and cultural origin of the samples.
Cognitive and neuropsychological profiles of the elderly
1993
Testing the cognitive functions of the elderly is often eclectic and atheoretical. We take a theoretical model, simultaneous and successive processing, and the tests derived from it to describe the cognitive functions of the elderly. Subsequently, the performance of an elderly sample on a battery of neuropsychological tests is examined and also understood in relation to the two processing modes. Subjects were 81 individuals, 75 years old, from a population of nearly 300 persons participating in a Finnish research project on aging. They were administered tests of simultaneous and successive processing as well as an extensive battery of neuropsychological tasks. Multivariate and univariate an…
Geographical Disparities in Multiple Myeloma Survival in Three French Regions
2016
Abstract Introduction: Within the past decade, new therapeutic agents for Multiple Myeloma (MM) have improved survival of patients included in clinical trials. The aim of this study was to measure and compare characteristics and survival of patients with MM in different French regions in the general population. Methods: All incident cases with MM (ICD-O-3 codes, 9732/3 and) between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009 in the French population-based Hematological Malignancies registries (Calvados, Côte d'Or and Gironde) were included. The end point of follow-up was January 1, 2015. Specific clinical information was recorded from clinical charts. Incidence rates were calculated using estimat…
One-year survival of demented stroke patients: data from the Dijon Stroke Registry, France (1985-2008)
2011
Background and purpose: Dementia is a frequent condition after stroke that may affect the prognosis of patients. Our aim was to determine whether post-stroke dementia was a predictor of 1-year case-fatality and to evaluate factors that could influence survival in demented stroke patients. Methods: From 1985 to 2008, all first-ever strokes were recorded in the population-based stroke registry of Dijon, France (150 000 inhabitants). Dementia was diagnosed during the first month following stroke, according to DSM-III and DSM-IV criteria. Survival was evaluated at 1 year and multivariate analyses were performed using Cox proportional hazards to identify independent predictive factors. Results…
A note on (basic) Principal Components Analysis
2020
This paper provides some issues, known but somewhat little stressed, on using the conventional covariance or correlation matrix when performing the simple PCA. The paper also proposes a new simple alternative by providing some evidence, via real-data analysis and some simulation experiments, supporting the proposal
Frequency Change Patterns across Proficiency Levels in Japanese EFL Learner Speech
2014
This study investigated the overall patterns of variation across seven oral proficiency levels of 1,263 Japanese EFL learners and native English speakers. The methodological approach combined a learner corpus, language processing techniques, and multivariate statistical analyses to identify patterns of language use. The largest spoken learner corpus in Japan, the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology Japanese Learner English (NICT JLE) Corpus was used for the analysis. This corpus consists of transcribed interviews with 1,281 learners and contains over one million running words of spoken English. The transcriptions were compared with data gathered from 20 native En…
Volcanic products of Lipari (Aeolian islands, Italy): Multivariate analysis of petrographic and radiometric data
2010
Abstract A petrographic and radiometric study, along with statistical multivariate analysis of volcanic products of the island of Lipari (Aeolian islands, Italy) was carried out. The volcanological history of Lipari was reconstructed defining two stages (pre- and post-erosive stages) further on subdivided in four volcanic phases, each of which characterized by products with a particular chemical composition and separated by stratigraphic unconformities. The correlations between petrographic features, determined by X-ray fluorescence, and volcanological history of the island highlight a gradual differentiation with younger rocks showing a more acid chemical composition than the older ones. R…
