La destacada actividad artística de Enric Mestre (Alboraya / Valencia, 1936) solo pude abordarse, en su compleja diversidad y riqueza, si se mantiene, como eje metodológico básico de su estudio crítico, el abierto enfoque de su sistemática interdisciplinariedad. Los diálogos e intercambios entre la escultura cerámica, la arquitectura, la pintura, el dibujo y los murales conforman precisamente el ámbito plural de su constante quehacer artístico. This Dissertation focuses on the iconography of the Crucifixion in the Carolingian mural painting between the 9th and the beginning of the 11th century. Pivot in the Christian thought with its dogmatic scope, the Crucifixion remains however poorly represented in the Latin West until the middle of the 8th century. Los últimos trabajos de restauración llevados a cabo en los arcosolios del cementerio del Conjunto Histórico de San Juan del Hospital de Valencia han sacado a la luz parte de las pinturas murales que sirvieron como decoración al intradós de estas pequeñas arquitecturas funerarias. Dichas pinturas, ocultas bajo diferentes capas de cal desde mediados del siglo XIV, se suman a las descubiertas en las anteriores etapas de rehabilitación y restauración en la capilla de San Miguel y en el arcosolio llamado de Fernández Heredia. De este modo el conjunto hospitalario se sitúa entre los monumentos con más numerosos e interesantes restos pictóricos murales de época medieval de la ciudad de Valencia. …

The paper investigates the recovery of classical artworks done through street art by Andrea ‘Ravo’ Mattoni, thus connecting his practice with social responsibility and aesthetic contextualisation emerging from public art in the wake of John Latham’s contextualism and Joseph Beuys’ social sculpture. The choice to recover classical iconography and repertoire from the sites of his interventions offers further the chance to consider the role of contemporary artists in expanding public consciousness and accessibility to cultural heritage by transferring images and meanings from museum rooms to open streets in the original sites.
