This article examines the construction of ethnicity in the permanent exhibitions of two Sami museums: Siida, the National Museum of the Finnish Sami and a Nature Centre of Metsahallitus, and ajtte, the Swedish Mountain and Sami Museum. The aim of the article is to find out how ethnic categories and boundaries are created by the exhibitions, and how the museum presentations relate to contemporary public discussions about Sami ethnicity. The presentations are analysed within the framework of discourse analysis. This article discusses the first project of the Nordic Museum in Stockholm, Sweden, dealing with immigrants. It was carried out between 1972 and 1990, and it produced material based on interviews, participant observation, photographs and other written and visual sources. The article first examines why and how this extensive research project was carried out and then discusses the documentation project as performance. The project was an early attempt to document the contemporary lives of people through fieldwork, although the original aim of this pioneering project was merely to create and preserve ethnic identity by documenting “authentic” Finnish characteristics. By analysing three museums exhibition, this article investigates how the history of European colonialism is approached in an attempt to identify potential for decolonising European minds. The case studies consist of a temporary exhibition (2016–2017) concerning German colonialism at the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin; the permanent exhibition of the House of European History in Brussels and the permanent exhibition of the Sagres Promontory (Portugal), a heritage site related to the conquest of the Americas. AbstractKaasik-Krogerus scrutinizes the European Heritage Label (EHL) as an authorized heritage discourse (AHD) in the making. She analyses how the discourse is formed in a politics of mobility and stability between the local, national, and European scales resulting from the interplay of europeanization (of the national and local) and domestication (of the European). Tutkielma käsittelee suomalaisten museoiden sosiaalisen median käyttöä ja kokemuksia. Siinä on haastateltu kuutta museoalalla toimivaa henkilöä. Aineistoa on kerätty myös museoille suunnatulla kyselyllä ja asiakaskyselyllä. Tutkielmaa hallitsee etnografinen ote, eli se on käytännön museotyötä kuvaileva. Aineisto on koottu pääosin vuonna 2015.

Tutkielmassa käsitellään Helsingin kaupunginmuseon erikoisnäyttelyitä vuosina 1967–1983. Tarkastelun painopiste on 1970-luvun näyttelyissä. Tutkimusajanjakso alkaa museon ensimmäisestä erikoisnäyttelystä ja päättyy päätökseen, jonka jälkeen museossa alettiin järjestää vuosittain yksi suurempi erikoisnäyttely, ns. päänäyttely. Erikoisnäyttelytoiminta on käynnistynyt Suomen kulttuurihistoriallisissa museoissa aktiivisemmin 1970-luvulla. Tuolloin näyttelytoiminnan kehittämiseen suhtauduttiin avoimesti ja toimintaan haettiin uusia muotoja. The development of Finnish museums over the last forty years

The focus of this article is the development of Finnish museums since the 1970s, when the Ministry of Education started to understand the social benefits of museums as social memory organizations with activities of research and education. At this point in time the Ministry began actively developing the preconditions for museum work, the main ”tools” being several political museum committees which created a museum hierarchy and network, ensured state subsidy through museum acts, established university studies of museology, and gave support to the Finnish Museums Association.
