2023

Innovative technological approaches are crucial to enhance naturalistic museum collections and develop information repositories of relevant interest to science, such as threatened animal taxa. In this context, museomics is an emerging discipline that provides a novel approach to the enhancement and exploitation of these collections. In the present study, the discovery of a neglected lion skeleton in the Museum of Zoology “Pietro Doderlein” of the University of Palermo (Italy) offered the opportunity to undertake a multidisciplinary project. Spazializzazione

2013

Rather than focusing on the countryside and on some particular objects of the rural world, in our contribution we concentrate on a “thinking by new concepts”. Following the example of Deleuze, by opting for a refusal of neutralizing forms of representations, we devised a concept – spaction – in order to show the relationships that should be established nowadays between a rural world and the dynamics of people, spaces and museums.

Low cost survey techniques aimed to the Cultural Heritage conservation.

2017

Thanks to SfM (Image Based Modeling) survey techniques, is possible to realize 3D models of every object, in a very short time and with limited economical and training resources, today. These semi-automated SfM software allow users to simply upload photos and follow a mediated workflow, without any complex inner workings of SfM and this can be especially advantageous to users in non-technical fields or to those with limited resources. Every year there is an international Event, #digitalinvasion, that involves the Italian museums and that reckons on to allow to take pictures and video to the whole museum collections. This event is present in Palermo since 2014 and the Engineering first year …
