Sicilian history could be summarized as an endless succession of rulers that came from the sea. Thus Sicilian identity could be consid-ered as the epitome of a postcolonial identity, if there could be one. In questo capitolo rielaboro la distinzione, proposta da Danblon e Donckier, tra regimi di razionalità fondati sul logos o sul mythos, proponendo una interpretazione cognitiva della ‘interazione mostruosa’ di questi due regimi che, secondo le autrici, costituirebbe uno carattere di alcune forme di comunicazione contemporanea.

Diodorus’ information on Sicilian geography are few, and they occur in Books 4-5, devoted to local myths. The historian deals especially with subjects such as insularity, site, dimensions of the Island, with the aim to stress the central role played by Sicily within the ancient Mediterranean world, also from a geographical point of view. In Diodorus’ Sicilian “Archaeology” the coeval data about geography mingle with mythical information, often approximative and unreal, which the historian found in previous literary traditions. In chant IX of Iliad there is the long digression of Phoenix, Achilles’ pedagogue, and plays a strategic role, as is recognized by almost all scholars. For this reason, the mise en abyme is a tool to explore the ambiguous relationship between language and reality, which remain central to the relationship between Phoenix and Achilles. The mise en abyme reveals the sense of vertigo mirror between teacher and student, becoming a metaphor and representation of masterful strategy in which the teacher / parent connection, enacts generative operation and produces a continuous exchange of roles. Phoenix, teacher and “parent”, is a fragile figure, oscillating between authority and weakness.

La riflessione è sviluppata attraverso l'esame di un trascurato saggio dello Studioso (Mnemosyne-Lesmosyne), scritto nel 1945 e legato al carteggio con Thomas Mann. The focus of this paper concerns the role of myth and oblivion in the 20th century in the thought of Karl Kerényi: the political use of myth and its ideological manipulation. The reflection is developed through the examination of a neglected essay (Mnemosyne-Lesmosyne), written in 1945 and linked to the correspondence with Thomas Mann.

Questa costante presenza fa sì che da elemento comune della dieta quotidiana, il sale divenga segno che alimenta la memoria della giustizia:il sale diviene perciò riferimento di un modello di vita fondato su relazioni armoniche, mentre la sua assenza conduce alla selvatichezza. Sotto questo aspetto il sale (marino) concorre alla soluzione delle aporie tra il politico e il domestico, tra la comunità e gli individui.Perciò il sale è un operatore simbolico di straordinaria efficacia.
