Occurrence and recovery potential of rare earth elements in Finnish peat and biomass combustion fly ash
2019
Rare earth elements (REEs) are highly important in the modern society as a result of their wide use in various fields of industry. Their high supply risk and increase in demand has led to classification as critical materials, and consequently, new resources for REEs are being prospected widely. Coal fly ash has been suggested as a possible secondary resource for REEs, but very little information is available regarding REE occurrence in biomass or peat derived fly ash. In this paper, fly ash samples from commercial power plants using peat and biomass as fuel were studied for REEs. The average concentration of REEs was 530 ppm, with up to 920 ppm in one fly ash. Five out of seven fly ashes we…
Gendered power relations in the digital age : an analysis of Japanese women’s media choice and use within a global context
2021
This study investigates the persistence of gendered choice and use of media, particularly in Japanese domestic settings. It shows how women’s significant presence in the digital media environment does not necessarily translate into substantial changes in gendered power dynamics in choosing and using particular media for certain purposes at home. This project’s authors, researchers from Argentina, Finland, Israel, Japan, and the US, analyzed interview data from Japan by drawing on the Foucauldian concept of micro-level power, which is categorized into three main types: personal authority, media affordances, and space-time constellations. Through this process, we interviewed 77 individuals, r…

Beatrix Potter : allegoriaa ja satiiria eläinsaduissa
2009
Lisäksi satujen keskeisenä teemana on vapauden kaipuu.

Group music therapy with healthy adult women : an approach for well-being
2014

The study was conducted within a clinical setting where the participants consisted of 4 intentionally selected adult women. The participants attended 12 music therapy sess…
Maailman ensimmäinen nainen - Eleanor Rooseveltin roolin ja kirjoitusten poliittisuus My Day - kolumneissa 1936-1941
2013
1930-luvun taitteessa puhjennut maailmanlaajuinen lama koetteli erityisen ankarasti Yhdysvaltoja ja leimasi maan kehitystä toisen maailmansodan puhkeamiseen asti. Franklin Roosevelt toimi maan presidenttinä vuosina 1933–1945 ja pyrki parantamaan ihmisten elinoloja sosiaalipoliittisella New Deal - ohjelmallaan. Hänen rinnallaan julkisuudessa ja myös poliittisen vaikuttamisen kulisseissa toimi hänen vaimonsa Eleanor Roosevelt, joka uudisti maan ensimmäisen naisen roolia aktiivisuudellaan. Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastellaan Eleanor Rooseveltin poliittista vaikutusvaltaa vuosina 1936–1941 hänen kirjoittamansa My Day – kolumnin kautta. Kolumnisteilla oli 1930-luvulla merkittävä rooli yhdysvaltalai…
Muscle and bone mass in middle‐aged women : role of menopausal status and physical activity
2020
Background. Women experience drastic hormonal changes during midlife due to the menopausal transition. Menopausal hormonal changes are known to lead to bone loss and potentially also to loss of lean mass. The loss of muscle and bone tissue coincide due to the functional relationship and interaction between these tissues. If and how physical activity counteracts deterioration in muscle and bone during the menopausal transition remains partly unresolved. This study investigated differences between premenopausal, early perimenopausal, late perimenopausal, and postmenopausal women in appendicular lean mass (ALM), appendicular lean mass index (ALMI), femoral neck bone mineral density (BMD) and T…
