Palladium–Polypyrrole Nanocomposites Pd@PPy for Direct C–H Functionalization of Pyrroles and Imidazoles with Bromoarenes
2016
International audience; Palladium–polypyrrole nanocomposites (Pd@PPy) with unique combination of high palladium dispersion (nanoparticle size 2.4 nm) and high palladium content (35 wt%) are efficient catalysts for the selective arylation of substituted pyrroles and imidazoles with either activated or deactivated aryl bromides. The performances of the recoverable supported palladium catalyst matches the best performances of homogeneous systems based on Pd(OAc)2 at 0.5–0.2 mol%, and largely overwhelm the classical Pd/C catalyst.
Magnetic hybrid TiO 2 /Alg/FeNPs triads for the efficient removal of methylene blue from water
2018
A new adsorbent material with combined adsorption, photocatalytic, and magnetic properties has been suc- cessfully synthesized and tested for the efficient dye removal from methylene blue (MB) contaminated water. A facile non-thermal method was applied to synthesize a hybrid nanocomposite consisting of TiO2/calcium algi- nate (TiO/Alg) and magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles (FeNPs). The potential of the adsorbent Alg as a barrier to prevent direct contact between the magnetic core and TiO2 was experimented by varying the synthesis condi- tions. The performance of four differently synthesized TiO2/Alg/FeNPs samples (TiO2/Alg/FeNPs-1, TiO2/Alg/ FeNPs-2, TiO2/Alg/FeNPs-3, and TiO2/Alg/FeNPs-4) wa…
Nanocomposite antimicrobials prevent bacterial growth through the enzyme-like activity of Bi-doped cerium dioxide (Ce1−xBixO2−δ)
2020
Preventing bacterial adhesion on materials surfaces is an important problem in marine, industrial, medical and environmental fields and a topic of major medical and societal importance. A defense strategy of marine organisms against bacterial colonization relies on the biohalogenation of signaling compounds that interfere with bacterial communication. These reactions are catalyzed by haloperoxidases, a class of metal-dependent enzymes, whose activity can be emulated by ceria nanoparticles. The enzyme-like activity of ceria was enhanced by a factor of 3 through bismuth substitution (Ce1−xBixO2−δ). The solubility of Bi3+ in CeO2 is confined to the range 0 < x < 0.25 under quasi-hydrothermal c…
Photosynthesized silver-polyaminocyclodextrin nanocomposites as promising antibacterial agents with improved activity
2016
Ag nanocomposites were prepared by photoreduction of ammoniacal silver acetate in the presence of poly-{6-[3-(2-(3-aminopropylamino)ethylamino)propylamino]}-(6-deoxy)-β-CD (amCD). The obtained systems were characterized by means of various complementary techniques (UV-vis, FT-IR, TEM, SAED). In particular, FT-IR spectroscopy evidenced a partial oxidative degradation of the polyamine branches of the capping auxiliary, due to the fact that these groups function as a sacrificial reducing agent in the photoinduced formation of the Ag metal core. TEM and SAED micrographs showed that the Ag cores possess a relatively low polydispersity and a significantly crystalline character. The Ag–amCD system…
Multifunctional superparamagnetic MnO@SiO2 core/shell nanoparticles and their application for optical and magnetic resonance imaging
2012
Highly biocompatible multifunctional nanocomposites consisting of monodisperse manganese oxide nanoparticles with luminescent silica shells were synthesized by a combination of w/o-microemulsion techniques and common sol–gel procedures. The nanoparticles were characterized by TEM analysis, powder XRD, SQUID magnetometry, FT-IR, UV/vis and fluorescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering. Due to the presence of hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains on the SiO2 surface, the nanocomposites are highly soluble and stable in various aqueous solutions, including physiological saline, buffer solutions and human blood serum. The average number of surface amino groups available for lig…
Noble metal nanoparticles in organic matrix
2020
Abstract The purpose of this work is the synthesis and study of the properties of nanocomposite structures created by noble metal (silver) nanoparticles (NP's), an exciting class of materials with unique properties differ from both bulk and atomic behavior, which are self-organize in a thin organic film of copper phthalocyanine (CuPc). The structure and morphology of this material, depending on the amount of deposited silver, was studied in ultrahigh vacuum using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and photoelectron spectroscopy (PES). Metallic atoms deposited on the surface of an organic substrate diffuse into the substrate, forming NPs with a narrow size distribution, which correlates …
Advanced nano-hybrids for thermo-oxidative-resistant nanocomposites
2016
In the present work, trisilanol phenyl polyhedral olygomeric silsesquiosane (TSPh-POSS) has been physically immobilized onto carbon nanotubes (CNTs) bearing covalently linked Br-terminated long-alkyl chain (Br-alkyl-f-CNTs), and the so obtained hybrid nanoparticles (Br-alkyl-f-CNTs/TSPh-POSS) have been used to prepare ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE)-based nanocomposites with enhanced thermo-oxidative resistance. The effective immobilization of the TSPh-POSS molecules has been confirmed by spectroscopic and thermo-gravimetric analyses. Besides, the influence of the hybrid nanoparticles on the rheological and mechanical behaviour and morphology of the nanocomposites have bee…
Low-density polyethylene/polyamide/clay blend nanocomposites: Effect of morphology of clay on their photooxidation resistance
2017
The photooxidation behaviour of low-density polyethylene (LDPE)/polyamide (PA) blends, containing polyamide 11 (PA11) or polyamide 6 (PA6), has been investigated in the absence and presence of a small amount of commercial organomodified clay (OMMT). The polymer blends LDPE/PA11 and LDPE/PA6 at 75/25 wt./wt.%, with and without OMMT, have been prepared by a two-step procedure: extrusion and sheet formulation. The formulated complex systems have been subjected to accurate morphological analysis in order to evaluate the effect of the OMMT presence on the refinement of the blend morphology. Furthermore, the produced sheets have been subjected to arterial UVB exposure and the variations of the me…
