Synthesis of Nd:YAG nanopowder using the citrate method with microwave irradiation
2010
Abstract Nd:YAG nanopowders were prepared using the Pechini process with microwave irradiation ( MWs ). A reference sample was also prepared using conventional heating. XRD pattern analysis showed that nanopowder obtained by means of conventional heating and calcination for 1 h at 900 °C has a structure made up of the garnet phase together with the hexagonal phase that disappeared after two additional hours of thermal treatment. The MWs powder calcined for 1 h consists of the single garnet phase. SAXS data analysis indicated that nanoparticles are characterized by a sharp interface. TEM investigation showed crystalline particles with remarkable agglomeration in both samples, although a more…
Inorganic Materials and Ionic Liquids: Large-scale Nanopatterning of Single Proteins used as Carriers of Magnetic Nanoparticles (Adv. Mater. 5/2010)
2010
2018
Hard corona (HC) protein, i.e., the environmental proteins of the biological medium that are bound to a nanosurface, is known to affect the biological fate of a nanomedicine. Due to the size, curvature, and specific surface area (SSA) 3-factor interactions inherited in the traditional 3D nanoparticle, HC-dependent bio-nano interactions are often poorly probed and interpreted. Here, the first HC-by-design case study in 2D is demonstrated that sequentially and linearly changes the HC quantity using functionalized graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets. The HC quantity and HC quality are analyzed using NanoDrop and label-free liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) followed by principal compon…
Nano-sized mesoporous carbon particles with bimodal pore system and semi-crystalline porous walls
2008
Acetylene CVD carbon replication of a hierarchical pore silica-based material, Fe-UVM-7, is reported. The original template organization, which is based on the aggregation of mesoporous nanoparticles, is accurately replicated in the final carbon material: a bimodal porous carbon combining mesoporous nanoparticles and inter-particle textural-like pores which provide high surface area, a highly accessible pore system and semi-crystalline pore walls in the form of graphitic-like nanodomains is presented.
Surface Functionality and Water Adsorption Studies of α-Aluminium (III) Oxide Nanoparticles by near Infrared Spectroscopy
2019
The adsorption of water on aluminium (III) oxide nanoparticle surface was studied by near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. The comparison of NIR spectra at 40% and 60% humidity were reported in this work and were analyzed using second derivative techniques. The second derivative spectra were used to understand the chemistry of adsorption of water molecules. Small amounts of samples were dried under vacuum at 230 °C before the analysis. The analysis of the spectra confirms the presence of three different hydroxyl groups on aluminium (III) oxide surface. The spectra acquired during the adsorption of water molecules show the characteristic peaks in the range of 5400-5100 cm-1 corresponding to the …
A Generalized Method for High‐Speed Fluorination of Metal Oxides by Spark Plasma Sintering Yields Ta 3 O 7 F and TaO 2 F with High Photocatalytic Act…
2021
A general method to carry out the fluorination of metal oxides with poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE, Teflon) waste by spark plasma sintering (SPS) on a minute scale with Teflon is reported. The potential of this new approach is highlighted by the following results. i) The tantalum oxyfluorides Ta3 O7 F and TaO2 F are obtained from plastic scrap without using toxic or caustic chemicals for fluorination. ii) Short reaction times (minutes rather than days) reduce the process time the energy costs by almost three orders of magnitude. iii) The oxyfluorides Ta3 O7 F and TaO2 F are produced in gram amounts of nanoparticles. Their synthesis can be upscaled to the kg range with industrial sintering …

Rapid one-pot propargylamine synthesis by plasmon mediated catalysis with gold nanoparticles on ZnO under ambient conditions
2013
Surface plasmon excitation of gold nanoparticles on ZnO in the presence of an aldehyde, an amine and phenylacetylene led to rapid and selective formation of propargylamines with good yields (50-95%) at room temperature. Plasmon mediated catalysis is the best available route for this ternary coupling.
Steroid-based gelators of A(LS)2 type: Tuning gel properties by metal coordination
2020
By utilizing up-to-date knowledge about gelators, we designed and synthesized a novel low-molecular-weight gelator bearing a pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid moiety and two cholesteryl glycinate units. In order to demonstrate the ingenuity of our design, we prepared a series of structurally related compounds and studied their gelation properties. Based on the results, we determined structural features of the gelator molecules which were important for successful gel formation. We showed that the properties of the gel systems (transparency, morphology, etc.) can be tuned by coordination with different metal ions, as well as by changing the solvent. Gelators, and their gels and xerogels were stu…
