The interplay between cooperativity and diversity is crucial for biological ensembles because single molecule experiments show a significant degree of heterogeneity and also for artificial nanostructures because of the high individual variability characteristic of nanoscale units. We study the cross-effects between cooperativity and diversity in model threshold ensembles composed of individually different units that show a cooperative behaviour. The units are modelled as statistical distributions of parameters (the individual threshold potentials here) characterized by central and width distribution values. This thesis describes a study into the eigenvalues and eigenstates of twodimensional (2D) quantum systems. The research is summarized in four scientific publications by the author. The underlying motivation for this work is the grand question of quantum chaos: how does chaos, as known in classical mechanics, manifest in quantum mechanics? The search and analysis of these quantum fingerprints of chaos requires efficient numerical tools and methods, the development of which is given a special emphasis in this thesis. AbstractRealization of Fano resonance in plasmonic oligomers is often exploited to design efficient plasmonic substrates for surface-enhanced coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering. Disk-type Fano-resonant plasmonic oligomers are widely used to enhance the Raman signal of the probe material. Nickel-Indium Sulphide Core-Shell Nanostructures Obtained by Spray-ILGAR Deposition

Ni nanowires (NWs) of different lengths were fabricated by pulsed potentiostatic deposition within pores of polycarbonate membranes. After template dissolution, substrates underwent sequential Spray-ILGAR (R) depositions of thin indium sulphide films. The effect of deposition temperature was also investigated. For low number of deposition cycles, results showed complete and uniform covering of metal over the entire length of NWs, with formation of Ni - In2S3 core-shell structures. However, with increasing number of deposition cycles films became uneven and crusty, especially at higher temperatures, owing to the simultaneous formation of nickel sulfide.
