Fe-doped Beta zeolite from organotemplate-free synthesis for NH3-SCR of NOx

2016

Two types of Beta zeolites, one from organotemplate-free synthesis with a Si/Al ratio of 9 and the other from a commercial one with a Si/Al ratio of 19, were employed here to dope Fe for NH3-SCR of NOx. Fe-Beta (Si/Al = 9) exhibits much higher activity than Fe-Beta (Si/Al = 19), especially at low-temperature regions (<250 °C). In addition, it also exhibits better hydrothermal stability as compared with Fe-Beta (Si/Al = 19), which demonstrates that it is a promising SCR catalyst with good activity as well as hydrothermal stability. The correlation between the quantitative calculation of the content of isolated Fe3+ in Beta zeolites and the NO conversion rate at 150 °C shows a linear relation…

Monitoring Chemical Reactions with SERS-Active Ag-Loaded Mesoporous TiO2 Films

2020

Monitoring chemical reactions that occur in small spaces or confined environments is challenging. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy offers the unique possibility to monitor spectral changes with high sensitivity and time resolution. Herein, we report the application of composite mesoporous TiO2 films loaded with Ag nanoparticles (NPs) to track in situ chemical processes in real time. In particular, the AgNPs@TiO2 system was employed to monitor two chemical reactions: one occurring on the Ag NPs surface and another taking place in the surrounding solution. In the first case, we monitored the decarboxylation reaction of 4-mercaptobenzoic acid on Ag NPs, which allowed us to…

Incorporation of dynamic boronate links and Ag nanoparticles into PVA hydrogels for pH-Regulated and prolonged release of methotrexate

2021

Abstract In this study, pH-responsive hydrogels based on PVA-boronate crosslinks were prepared via a simple route and used for controlled and targeted delivery of anticancer drug methotrexate. A double network (DN) hydrogel composed of didiol-boronate/PVA complex as the first network and PVA crystallites generated by a freeze-thaw process as the second one was developed. The swelling of PVA-boronate DN hydrogels demonstrated high sensitivity to multiple stimuli including the pH, temperature, and ionic strength of the media thanks to the dynamic boronate links in the first network. Moreover, unlike previously reported hydrogels based on the boronate linkages, the new DN hydrogels preserved t…

Monolayer graphene doping and strain dynamics induced by thermal treatments in controlled atmosphere

2018

Time dynamics of doping and strain induced in single layer graphene by thermal treatments up to 300 degrees C in vacuum, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and oxygen controlled atmosphere are deeply studied by Raman spectroscopy and they are compared with its morphological evolution investigated by Atomic Force Microscopy. The reaction dynamics in oxygen treatments is determined down to a time scale of few minutes as well as that of dedoping process made by water vapor treatment. The interplay of strain modification and doping effects is separated. The strain is clarified to be strongly influenced by the cooling time. The doping removal is dominated by the water vapor, showing that the concentration…

Enhanced Permeability and Retention-like Extravasation of Nanoparticles from the Vasculature into Tuberculosis Granulomas in Zebrafish and Mouse Mode…

2018

The enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect is the only described mechanism enabling nanoparticles (NPs) flowing in blood to reach tumors by a passive targeting mechanism. Here, using the transparent zebrafish model infected with Mycobacterium marinum we show that an EPR-like process also occurs allowing different types of NPs to extravasate from the vasculature to reach granulomas that assemble during tuberculosis (TB) infection. PEGylated liposomes and other NP types cross endothelial barriers near infection sites within minutes after injection and accumulate close to granulomas. Although similar to 100 and 190 nm NPs concentrated most in granulomas, even similar to 700 nm liposo…

A Study on Acidification and Intercalation of Illite Clay Minerals and their Potential Use as a Filler in SPEEK Composite Membranes

2018

The acidification and intercalation of illite containing clays were studied for potential use as fillers for sulphonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) composite membrane preparation and future proton exchange membrane fuel cells application. The acidification and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) intercalation of illite clays have been studied by powder X-ray diffractometry, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, and thermogravimetric analysis. SPEEK composite membranes were made with 1, 3 and 5% purified, acidified, DMSO intercalated clay fillers. SPEEK/clay composite membranes were characterized by proton conductivity, water uptake, and mechanical strength.

Hexagonal nanosheets from the exfoliation of Ni2+-Fe3+ LDHs: a route towards layered multifunctional materials

2010

Here we report the synthesis of a crystalline micrometric-sized hexagonal-shaped Ni2+-Fe3+ LDH by following a modified homogeneous precipitation method. The exfoliation of the material in formamide leads to stable suspensions of hexagonal nanometric sheets, which have been extensively characterized. Our data confirm that the intrinsic properties of the bulk material are retained by these segregated nanosheets, thus opening the door for their use in the development of layered multifunctional materials.

Porous clays heterostructures as supports of iron oxide for environmental catalysis

2018

[EN] Porous Clays Heterostructures (PCH) from natural pillared clays (bentonite with a high proportion of montmorillonite) have been used as supports of iron oxide for two reactions of environmental interest: i) the elimination of toluene (a representative compound of one of the most toxic subsets of volatile organic compounds, aromatics) by total oxidation and ii) the selective oxidation of H2S to elemental sulfur. For both reactions these catalysts have resulted to be remarkably more efficient than similar catalysts prepared using conventional silica as a support. Thus, in the total oxidation of toluene it has been observed that the catalytic activity obtained using siliceous PCH is two o…

Improvement of catalytic activity over Cu--Fe modified Al-rich Beta catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3

2016

Copper and iron bimetal modified Al-rich Beta zeolites from template-free synthesis were prepared for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 in exhaust gas streams. Comparing to the Cu-based and Fe-based mono-component Beta catalysts, Cu(3.0)-Fe(1.3)-Beta bi-component catalyst shows better low-temperature activity and wider reaction-temperature window. Over 80% of NO conversion can be achieved at the temperature region of 125–500 °C. Due to the synergistic effect of copper and iron evidenced by XRD, UV–Vis–NIR, EPR and XPS measurements, the dispersion state of active components as well as the ratio of Cu2+/Cu+ and Fe3+/Fe2+ were improved over Cu(3.0)-Fe(1.3)-Beta. Isolated Cu2+…
