Strong Exchange Coupling in a Trimetallic Radical-Bridged Cobalt(II)-Hexaazatrinaphthylene Complex.
2016
Reducing hexaazatrinaphthylene (HAN) with potassium in the presence of 18-c-6 produces [{K(18-c-6)}HAN], which contains the S=1/2 radical [HAN](.-) . The [HAN](.-) radical can be transferred to the cobalt(II) amide [Co{N(SiMe3 )2 }2 ], forming [K(18-c-6)][(HAN){Co(N'')2 }3 ]; magnetic measurements on this compound reveal an S=4 spin system with strong cobalt-ligand antiferromagnetic exchange and J≈-290 cm(-1) (-2 J formalism). In contrast, the Co(II) centres in the unreduced analogue [(HAN){Co(N'')2 }3 ] are weakly coupled (J≈-4.4 cm(-1) ). The finding that [HAN](.-) can be synthesized as a stable salt and transferred to cobalt introduces potential new routes to magnetic materials based on …

: Reducing hexaazatrinaphthylene (HAN) with potassium in the presence of 18-c-6 produces [{K(18-c-6)}HAN], which contains the S = 1/2 radical [HAN]C ¢ . The [HAN]C ¢ radical can be transferred to the cobalt(II) amide [Co{N- (SiMe3 )2 }2 ], forming [K(18-c-6)][(HAN){Co(N’’)2 }3 ]; magnetic measurements on this compound reveal an S = 4 spin system with strong cobalt–ligand antiferromagnetic exchange and J ¢290 cm¢1 (¢2 J formalism). In contrast, the CoII centres in the unreduced analogue [(HAN){Co(N’’)2}3] are weakly coupled (J ¢4.4 cm¢1 ). The finding that [HAN]C ¢ can be synthesized as a stable salt and transferred to cobalt introduces potential new routes to magnetic materials based on str…
Olfactory and cortical projections to bulbar and hippocampal adult-born neurons
2015
New neurons are continually generated in the subependymal layer of the lateral ventricles and the subgranular zone of dentate gyrus during adulthood. In the subventricular zone, neuroblasts migrate a long distance to the olfactory bulb where they differentiate into granule or periglomerular interneurons. In the hippocampus, neuroblasts migrate a short distance from the subgranular zone to the granule cell layer of the dentate gyrus to become granule neurons. In addition to the short-distance inputs, bulbar interneurons receive long-distance centrifugal afferents from olfactory-recipient structures. Similarly, dentate granule cells receive differential inputs from the medial and lateral ento…
Anaphylaxis caused by helminths: review of the literature.
2012
BACKGROUND: Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening, generalized or systemic hypersensitivity reaction. In many individuals with anaphylaxis a pivotal role is played by IgE and the high-affinity IgE receptor on mast cells or basophils. Less commonly, it is triggered through other immunologic mechanisms, or through nonimmunologic mechanisms. The human immune response to helminth infections is associated with elevated levels of IgE, tissue eosinophilia and mastocytosis, and the presence of CD4+ T cells that preferentially produce IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13. Individuals exposed to helminth infections may have allergic inflammatory responses to parasites and parasite antigens. AIM: To summarize th…
The influence of cerium to urea preparation ratio of nanocrystalline ceria catalysts for the total oxidation of naphthalene
2008
The influence of cerium salt/urea ratio on the activity of nanocrystalline ceria catalysts prepared by homogeneous precipitation with urea for the complete oxidation of naphthalene has been evaluated. Ceria catalysts were prepared from five different cerium salt/urea ratios (2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4). Catalyst characterization (by BET, XRD and TPR) only revealed subtle differences in the characteristics of these catalysts with cerium salt to urea ratio. However, Raman and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results indicated differences in the oxygen defect concentration (FWHM of Raman band) and morphology of the catalysts with variation of the preparation ratio. Catalysts prepared with 2:…
Role of the nNOS gene in ethanol-induced conditioned place preference in mice
2009
Nitric oxide (NO) produced by neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) has a role in synaptic plasticity, and evidence suggests its role in a range of effects produced by alcohol in the central nervous system. The aim of the current study was to investigate the role of the nNOS gene in the development of ethanol-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) in mice. The CPP paradigm is designed to investigate the reinforcing properties of drugs of abuse and the development of maladaptive behaviors, such as conditioned response to drug-associated stimuli, following repeated drug exposure. Adult male and female wild type (WT) and nNOS knockout (KO) mice on a mixed B6; 129S genetic background were t…
Capsaicin desensitization in vivo is inhibited by ruthenium red.
1990
The effect of systemic administration of Ruthenium Red on the excitatory and desensitizing effect of capsaicin was investigated in rats. Ruthenium Red was injected s.c. 30 min before capsaicin was administered. The excitatory effect of capsaicin on corneal, perivascular and visceral afferents was not influenced by treatment with Ruthenium Red. However, determination of the neuropeptide content and evoked neuropeptide release in peripheral organs and dorsal spinal cord 48 h after treatment showed that Ruthenium Red attenuated the 'desensitizing' effect of capsaicin at peripheral, but not at central, endings of primary afferents. On the other hand, a capsaicin-elicited autonomic reflex mediat…
Total oxidation of naphthalene using bulk manganese oxide catalysts
2013
Several Mn2O3 catalysts have been synthesized using different preparation methods and tested for the total oxidation of naphthalene, a model polycyclic aromatic compound. The catalysts have been characterized by several physico-chemical techniques such as XRD, TPR, XPS, EDX and TEM. The surface area of the catalyst seems to be of paramount importance, since the mass normalized activity of catalysts increases as the surface area of the Mn2O3 catalysts increases. Consequently, a high surface area ordered mesoporous Mn2O3 catalyst, obtained through a nanocasting route using mesoporous KIT-6 silica as a hard template, was the most efficient catalyst for the deep oxidation of naphthalene. In add…
Hypervisor-assisted Atomic Memory Acquisition in Modern Systems
2019
Reliable memory acquisition is essential to forensic analysis of a cyber-crime. Various methods of memory acquisition have been proposed, ranging from tools based on a dedicated hardware to software only solutions. Recently, a hypervisor-based method for memory acquisition was proposed (Qi et al., 2017; Martignoni et al., 2010). This method obtains a reliable (atomic) memory image of a running system. The method achieves this by making all memory pages non-writable until they are copied to the memory image, thus preventing uncontrolled modification of these pages. Unfortunately, the proposed method has two deficiencies: (1) the method does not support multiprocessing and (2) the method does…
