Comments on “Failure, Identity Loss and Living Information Systems” by P. Kanellis, M. Lycett, and R.J. Paul

2000

Information system (IS) failure is a pervasive phenomenon. Like the paper’s introduction, common sense and statistics show information system failure is common and also important, because huge amounts of human effort and economic resources are spent without much gain. The issue of failure is also related to FRISCO report and the theme of the conference in two ways. First our concepts and ideas about information system and the nature of information system development can affect either positively or negatively our intellectual and technical capabilities to influence the likelihood of IS failure. Second, because information system definition forms one key concept and focus of the FRISCO report…

Transgresión moral y enfermedad en los países nórdicos en la temprana Edad Moderna

2009

This article seeks to understand how people in the early modern age interpreted the nature of illness and the role that morality played in these interpretations. From this point of view illnesses were not only psycho-physical states or subjects for medical diagnosis but they were also subjects for narratives or stories through which people tried to understand what had caused their illness, and why it was happening to them. Illnesses were understood as strictly connected with the patient's character and were regarded as possible consequences of his personality. On the other hand, the interpretations also emphasised the ambivalence of a healer. Personal experiences and an understanding of one…

Therapists’ Responses for Enhancing Change Through Dialogue: Dialogical Investigations of Change

2016

The point of view on research represented here is based on a dialogical framework. Our emphasis is on understanding the contribution of the therapists to the process of change. We conceptualize therapeutic conversation as a dialogical activity. In using the research method The Dialogical Investigation of Happenings of Change (DIHC) the focus is on how therapists participate and answer from a specific position of “responsive responsibility.” In this chapter our aim is twofold: (1) to present a method for conducting a dialogical analysis of couple sessions and (2) to track detailed sequences of events of change. To make sense of the details of this process, we use Bakhtinian concepts includin…

The Innovative Moments Coding System and the Assimilation of Problematic Experiences Scale: A case study comparing two methods to track change in psy…

2014

The Assimilation of Problematic Experiences Scale (APES) and the Innovative Moments Coding System were applied to transcripts of a successful case of linguistic therapy of evaluation independently by different research groups. Assimilation theory and research suggest that higher APES scores reflect therapeutic gains, with a level of approximately 4.0 separating good from poor outcome cases. The innovative moments (IMs) model suggests that IMs classified as reconceptualization and performing change occur mainly in good outcome cases, whereas action, reflection and protest occur in both good and poor outcome cases. Passages coded as reconceptualization and performing change were rare in this …

Analysis of the Narratives with Characters That Make Ethnic Diversity Visible¿ Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir

2023

This study follows the line of different authors who examined the visibility of ethnic diversity in children's television series and the psychoeducational implications of these media narratives for children. Specifically, this work analyses the behaviours/actions developed by the model characters of cultural diversity and how these characters promote a perspective on diversity that conditions children. Employing a qualitative methodology, we use content analysis and critical discourse analysis as tools to be able to read, describe and interpret said content. The results highlight that these children's programmes present a culture that reinforces certain values and behaviours. Likewise, the …

Informal Disaster Governance

2020

<p>Scholars and practitioners are increasingly questioning formal disaster governance (FDG) approaches as being too rigid, slow, and command-and-control driven. Too often, local realities and non-formal influences are sidelined or ignored to the extent that disaster governance can be harmed through the efforts to impose formal and/or political structures. A contrasting narrative emphasises so-called bottom-up, local, and/or participatory approaches which this article proposes to encapsulate as Informal Disaster Governance (IDG). This article theorises IDG and situates it within the long-standing albeit limited literature on the topic, paying particular attention to the literature’s fa…

Teacher Agency and Futures Thinking

2022

Problems encountered in top-down school reforms have repeatedly highlighted the significance of teachers’ agency in educational change. At the same time, temporality has been identified as a key element in teachers’ agency, with teachers’ beliefs about the future and experiences of the past shaping their agentic orientations. However, research on teachers’ future orientations is typically limited to short-term trajectories, as opposed to long-term visions of education. To address this, we draw on a futures studies perspective to give more explicit attention to teachers’ long-term visions of their work. We argue that the method of future narratives, already well…

Virtual Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards: A Narrative Review Focused on Lung Cancer

2021

To date, the virtual multidisciplinary tumor boards (vMTBs) are increasingly used to achieve high-quality treatment recommendations across health-care regions, which expands and develops the local MTB team to a regional or national expert network. This review describes the process of lung cancer-specific MTBs and the transition process from face-to-face tumor boards to virtual ones. The review also focuses on the project organization's description, advantages, and disadvantages. Semi-structured interviews identified five major themes for MTBs: current practice, attitudes, enablers, barriers, and benefits for the MTB. MTB teams exhibited positive responses to modeled data feedback. Virtualiz…

Rhinomanometry: point of care test (POCT) for allergic rhinitis in children?

2021

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a global health problem: its prevalence is 23% in Europe, although it is underestimated because as many as 45% of the cases remain undiagnosed. Globally, almost 500 million people suffer from AR, which shows its increasing incidences. The diagnostic course of AR is based on clinical history, supported by anterior rhinoscopy. This inspects the anterior part of the nasal cavity accompanied by allergic sensitivity tests (cutaneous allergic skin tests or specific immunoglobulin E levels). The availability of standardised diagnostic proceduresis able to provide objective evaluations of inflammatory situation, and the degree of nasal obstruction may give an advantage in …

Puritāņu sievišķības un Indiāņu mežonības atspoguļojums agrīnās ASV nebrīves stāstījumos

2018
