Tässä tutkimuksessa tutkittiin millä tavoin freejazz ilmensi afrikanamerikkalaisten nationalistista identiteettiä Yhdysvalloissa 1960-luvulla. Tavoitteena oli selvittää erilaisia afrikanamerikkalaisen kulttuurin kautta rakennetun nationalistisen identiteetin presentaatiotapoja freejazzin kontekstissa. Erityisesti netissä olevan materiaalin suhteen on vaarana, että lukijan on vaikea erottaa, mikä tieto perustuu tutkimukseen ja mikä on sepitettyä historiaa eli pseudohistoriaa.
