Fuzzy Integral Imaging Camera Calibration for Real Scale 3D Reconstructions

2014

In this paper, we present a quantitative analysis of the error in the reconstruction of a 3D scene which has been captured with Synthetic Aperture Integral Imaging system. The 3D information is obtained from 2D images for which the camera parameters are unknown. The model used for calibrating the Integral Imaging camera setup is based on fuzzy systems. These systems provide the opportunity for modeling of conditions which are inherently imprecisely defined. We demonstrate that the error in the 3D reconstruction not only depends on the number of cameras, but also to their relative positions. Our model is applied to a set of images captured experimentally from a real object. A true-color real…

Passive time-multiplexing super-resolved technique for axially moving targets

2013

In this paper we present a super-resolving approach for detecting an axially moving target that is based upon a time-multiplexing concept and that overcomes the diffraction limit set by the optics of an imaging camera by a priori knowledge of the high-resolution background in front of which the target is moving. As the movement trajectory is axial, the approach can be applied to targets that are approaching or moving away from the camera. By recording a set of low-resolution images at different target axial positions, the super-resolving algorithm weights each image by demultiplexing them using the high-resolution background image and provides a super-resolved image of the target. Theoretic…

3D high definition video coding on a GPU-based heterogeneous system

2013

H.264/MVC is a standard for supporting the sensation of 3D, based on coding from 2 (stereo) to N views. H.264/MVC adopts many coding options inherited from single view H.264/AVC, and thus its complexity is even higher, mainly because the number of processing views is higher. In this manuscript, we aim at an efficient parallelization of the most computationally intensive video encoding module for stereo sequences. In particular, inter prediction and its collaborative execution on a heterogeneous platform. The proposal is based on an efficient dynamic load balancing algorithm and on breaking encoding dependencies. Experimental results demonstrate the proposed algorithm's ability to reduce the…

A Teledentistry system for the second opinion

2014

In this paper we present a Teledentistry system aimed to the Second Opinion task. It make use of a particular camera called intra-oral camera, also called dental camera, in order to perform the photo shooting and real-time video of the inner part of the mouth. The pictures acquired by the Operator with such a device are sent to the Oral Medicine Expert (OME) by means of a current File Transfer Protocol (FTP) service and the real-time video is channeled into a video streaming thanks to the VideoLan client/server (VLC) application. It is composed by a HTML5 web-pages generated by PHP and allows to perform the Second Opinion both when Operator and OME are logged and when one of them is offline.

Automatic orientation and 3D modelling from markerless rock art imagery

2013

This paper investigates the use of two detectors and descriptors on image pyramids for automatic image orientation and generation of 3D models. The detectors and descriptors replace manual measurements and are used to detect, extract and match features across multiple imagery. The Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) and the Speeded Up Robust Features (SURF) will be assessed based on speed, number of features, matched features, and precision in image and object space depending on the adopted hierarchical matching scheme. The influence of applying in addition Area Based Matching (ABM) with normalised cross-correlation (NCC) and least squares matching (LSM) is also investigated. The pipel…

Cost-driven framework for progressive compression of textured meshes

2019

International audience; Recent advances in digitization of geometry and radiometry generate in routine massive amounts of surface meshes with texture or color attributes. This large amount of data can be compressed using a progressive approach which provides at decoding low complexity levels of details (LoDs) that are continuously refined until retrieving the original model. The goal of such a progressive mesh compression algorithm is to improve the overall quality of the transmission for the user, by optimizing the rate-distortion trade-off. In this paper, we introduce a novel meaningful measure for the cost of a progressive transmission of a textured mesh by observing that the rate-distor…

Development of an Automatic Pollen Classification System Using Shape, Texture and Aperture Features

2015

International audience; Automatic detection and classification of pollen species has value for use inside of palynologic allergen studies. Traditional labeling of different pollen species requires an expert biologist to classify particles by sight, and is therefore time-consuming and expensive. Here, an automatic process is developed which segments the particle contour and uses the extracted features for the classification process. We consider shape features, texture features and aperture features and analyze which are useful. The texture features analyzed include: Gabor Filters, Fast Fourier Transform, Local Binary Patterns, Histogram of Oriented Gradients, and Haralick features. We have s…

Copy-move Forgery Detection via Texture Description

2010

Copy-move forgery is one of the most common type of tampering in digital images. Copy-moves are parts of the image that are copied and pasted onto another part of the same image. Detection methods in general use block-matching methods, which first divide the image into overlapping blocks and then extract features from each block, assuming similar blocks will yield similar features. In this paper we present a block-based approach which exploits texture as feature to be extracted from blocks. Our goal is to study if texture is well suited for the specific application, and to compare performance of several texture descriptors. Tests have been made on both uncompressed and JPEG compressed image…

Global Upscaling of the MODIS Land Cover with Google Earth Engine and Landsat Data

2021

Image classification has become one of the most common applications in remote sensing yielding to the creation of a variety of operational thematic maps at multiple spatio-temporal scales. The information contained in these maps summarizes key characteristics related with the physical environment and provides fundamental information of the Earth for vegetation monitoring or land use status over time. However, high spatial resolution land cover maps are usually only produced for specific small regions or in an image tile. We present a general methodology to obtain a high spatial resolution land cover maps using Landsat spectral information, the powerful Google Earth Engine platform, and oper…

Kolmogorov superposition theorem for image compression

2012

International audience; The authors present a novel approach for image compression based on an unconventional representation of images. The proposed approach is different from most of the existing techniques in the literature because the compression is not directly performed on the image pixels, but is rather applied to an equivalent monovariate representation of the wavelet-transformed image. More precisely, the authors have considered an adaptation of Kolmogorov superposition theorem proposed by Igelnik and known as the Kolmogorov spline network (KSN), in which the image is approximated by sums and compositions of specific monovariate functions. Using this representation, the authors trad…
