Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis

1977

An optimal Poincaré-Wirtinger inequality in Gauss space

2013

International audience; Let $\Omega$ be a smooth, convex, unbounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^N$. Denote by $\mu_1(\Omega)$ the first nontrivial Neumann eigenvalue of the Hermite operator in $\Omega$; we prove that $\mu_1(\Omega) \ge 1$. The result is sharp since equality sign is achieved when $\Omega$ is a $N$-dimensional strip. Our estimate can be equivalently viewed as an optimal Poincaré-Wirtinger inequality for functions belonging to the weighted Sobolev space $H^1(\Omega,d\gamma_N)$, where $\gamma_N$ is the $N$% -dimensional Gaussian measure.

A sharp lower bound for some neumann eigenvalues of the hermite operator

2013

This paper deals with the Neumann eigenvalue problem for the Hermite operator defined in a convex, possibly unbounded, planar domain $\Omega$, having one axis of symmetry passing through the origin. We prove a sharp lower bound for the first eigenvalue $\mu_1^{odd}(\Omega)$ with an associated eigenfunction odd with respect to the axis of symmetry. Such an estimate involves the first eigenvalue of the corresponding one-dimensional problem. As an immediate consequence, in the class of domains for which $\mu_1(\Omega)=\mu_1^{odd}(\Omega)$, we get an explicit lower bound for the difference between $\mu(\Omega)$ and the first Neumann eigenvalue of any strip.

The equality case in a Poincaré–Wirtinger type inequality

2016

It is known that, for any convex planar set W, the first non-trivial Neumann eigenvalue μ1 (Ω) of the Hermite operator is greater than or equal to 1. Under the additional assumption that Ω is contained in a strip, we show that β1 (Ω) = 1 if and only if Ω is any strip. The study of the equality case requires, among other things, an asymptotic analysis of the eigenvalues of the Hermite operator in thin domains.

Rolle's Theorem for Polynomials of Degree Four in a Hilbert Space

2002

AbstractIn an infinite-dimensional real Hilbert space, we introduce a class of fourth-degree polynomials which do not satisfy Rolle's Theorem in the unit ball. Extending what happens in the finite-dimensional case, we show that every fourth-degree polynomial defined by a compact operator satisfies Rolle's Theorem.

The colovescical fistula in diverticular disease: Laparoscopic approach in two different cases

2020

Highlights • The colovescical fistula is one of the complications of diverticular disease. • It can cause typical symptoms like pneumaturia and fecaluria affecting the quality of life and sometimes leading to death, usually secondary to sepsis. • We studied two patients with clinical, radiological and endoscopic diagnosis of colovescical fistula as a consequence of diverticular disease. • We performed a totally laparoscopic treatment with colonic resection and closure of the fistula with intracorporeal sutures. • The presence of a colovescical fistula significantly increases the difficult of the laparoscopic colonic resection.

SURFACE AND MECHANISTIC PROPERTIES OF RECYCLED BITUMINOUS MIXTURES

2019

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Problem Often, when the characteristics of a bituminous mixture are analised, there are major differences between in-lab and in-situ results. This is due to the fact that the procedures and techniques implemented during the design phase (in lab) may be different from those used on site. Then, is very important to be able to predict the main properties of a mixture particularly when innovative materials are used. For example, when crumb rubber is used, phisical and volumetric properties of mixes may change over time, in particular due to the swelling phenomenon that it alters different properties of the mixture (e.g., viscosity). This study aims to investigate the main aspe…

Differences in the clinical and radiologic patterns of rotavirus and non-rotavirus necrotizing enterocolitis

1991

We analyzed retrospectively 32 successive infants who developed necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), 13 with rotavirus (RV) infection (RV+) and 19 RV-negative (RV-). All patients showed at least pneumatosis intestinalis. All patients except one had risk factors for perinatal asphyxia. Our study demonstrated significant differences between RV+ NEC and RV- NEC cases: RV+ NEC infants had a higher birth weight and were born at a later gestational age. Oral feeding was started earlier and symptoms developed later and more insidiously in RV+ patients than in RV- NEC babies. Radiology revealed a less severe and more distal colon involvement in RV+ NEC infants, whereas the RV- NEC patients mostly had s…

Morphological and biochemical changes in striated muscle after experimental tourniquet ischaemia.

1979

Histological and biochemical changes were studied in the striated muscle following total tourniquet ischaemia between one and four h, the reflow time being 30 min and 24 h. Electronmicroscopy was applied to study the fine structure of the muscle after 24 h reflow. In light microscopy ischaemic changes were not seen even when the tourniquet time was extended to four h. When a four-h ischaemia was followed by a 24-h recovery period, the electron microscopy showed a variety of minor mitochondrial changes such as condensed and slightly dilatated mitochondria. The SDH activities did not vary significantly between the experimental and control samples even after a four-h ischaemia followed by 30 m…

Efficacy of pneumatic dilatation for the treatment of idiopatic achalasia: a single-center experience

2015

Pneumatic dilatation (PD) and Surgical Miotomy (SM) are presently the best treatments for untreated achalasia, with similar efficacy. There is no information on the relative efficacy of PD in younger compared to older patients. Aim of our study was to compare success rate and safety of PD in patients under fifty years old and in those over fifty years old affected by achalasia. Twenty consecutive symptomatic patients were treated in our Unit with graded PD under fluoroscopic view. Five male and 15 female with a median age of 47 years were treated. Twelve patients were less than fifty years old (group I) while 8 were older (group II). Median dysphagia questionnaire score was 14 and13 ingroup…
