Generation of Frames

2004

It is well known that, given a generic frame, there exists a unique frame operator which satisfies, together with its adjoint, a double operator inequality. In this paper we start considering the inverse problem, that is how to associate a frame to certain operators satisfying the same kind of inequality. The main motivation of our analysis is the possibility of using frame theory in the discussion of some aspects of the quantum time evolution, both for open and for closed physical systems.

Effective coefficients of thermoconductivity on some symmetric periodically perforated plane structures

1996

In this article we discuss an auxiliary problem which arises in the homogenization theory for the Laplacian on the plane with periodic array of square holes and homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions on those. Independently, this problem describes the process of thermoconductivity. We find the explicit formulas for effective coefficients of thermoconductivity (homogenized modula). We make also the asymptotic analysis of these formulas in the cases of big and small holes.

Exactly solvable time-dependent pseudo-Hermitian su(1,1) Hamiltonian models

2018

An exact analytical treatment of the dynamical problem for time-dependent 2x2 pseudo-hermitian su(1,1) Hamiltonians is reported. A class of exactly solvable and physically transparent new scenarios are identified within both classical and quantum contexts. Such a class is spanned by a positive parameter $\nu$ that allows to distinguish two different dynamical regimes. Our results are usefully employed for exactly solving a classical propagation problem in a guided wave optics scenario. The usefulness of our procedure in a quantum context is illustrated by defining and investigating the su(1,1) "Rabi" scenario bringing to light analogies and differences with the standard su(2) Rabi model. Optimal control of a three-level quantum system by laser fields plus von Neumann measurements

2008

International audience; We investigate the control of a three-level quantum system by laser fields assisted by von Neumann measurements. We consider a system which is not completely controllable by unitary evolution but which becomes controllable if particular measurements are used. The optimal control is defined from a cost functional which takes into account the measurements. The cost corresponds either to the minimization of the duration of the control or to the minimization of the energy of the laser field. Using the Pontryagin maximum principle, we determine the optimal control which steers the system from a given initial state toward a desired target state. This allows one to determin…

Dynamics of mean-field spin models from basic results in abstract differential equations

1992

The infinite-volume limit of the dynamics of (generalized) mean-field spin models is obtained through a direct analysis of the equations of motion, in a large class of representations of the spin algebra. The resulting dynamics fits into a general framework for systems with long-range interaction: variables at infinity appear in the time evolution of local variables and spontaneous symmetry breaking with an energy gap follows from this mechanism. The independence of the construction of the approximation scheme in finite volume is proven. © 1992 Plenum Publishing Corporation.

An existence result for a Neumann problem

2015

The main result of this paper deals with the existence of at least one positive solution for a second order Neumann boundary value problem. Such a result is obtained by using an abstract coincidence point theorem that allows to get our conclusion under non standard conditions on the nonlinearity.

Pneumatoceles and pneumothoraces complicating staphylococcal pneumonia: treatment by synchronous independent lung ventilation.

1993

A 54 year old man with a staphylococcal sepsis developed staphylococcal pneumonia complicated by multiple pneumatoceles and bilateral tension pneumothoraces caused by bronchopleural fistulae. Excessive enlargement of the right sided pneumatoceles and a tension pneumothorax not improved by drainage led to mediastinal shift and compression of the right lung. Reversal of the mediastinal shift and closure of the bronchopleural fistulae was achieved by assisted independent lung ventilation.

A note on faithful traces on a von Neumann algebra

2009

In this short note we give some techniques for constructing, starting from a {\it sufficient} family $\mc F$ of semifinite or finite traces on a von Neumann algebra $\M$, a new trace which is faithful.

Weak solution for Neumann (p,q)-Laplacian problem on Riemannian manifold

2019

We prove the existence of a nontrivial solution for a nonlinear (p, q)-Laplacian problem with Neumann boundary condition, on a non compact Riemannian manifold. The idea is to reduce the problem in variational form, which means to consider the critical points of the corresponding Euler-Lagrange functional in an Orlicz-Sobolev space. (C) 2019 Elsevier Inc. Uniqueness of positive solutions to some nonlinear Neumann problems

2017

Abstract Using the moving plane method, we obtain a Liouville type theorem for nonnegative solutions of the Neumann problem { div ( y a ∇ u ( x , y ) ) = 0 , x ∈ R n , y > 0 , lim y → 0 + ⁡ y a u y ( x , y ) = − f ( u ( x , 0 ) ) , x ∈ R n , under general nonlinearity assumptions on the function f : R → R for any constant a ∈ ( − 1 , 1 ) .
