Use of two odorants to control bactrocera oleae and ceratitis capitata
2020
International audience; Many insects are considered as pests because of the damage they cause to cultures. Growers and our society are waiting for environmentally safe strategies to prevent insect damages, without arming the environment and the biodiversity. Recently we discovered an innovative solution using some odorant molecules to control Drosophila suzukii behavior. Using this knowledge we started to investigate the possibility to apply this strategy to Bactrocera oleae (olive fruit fly) and Ceratitis capitata (Mediterranean fruit fly) to modify their social behavior. This new technology, which is protected by the patent n° EP19306102, could be particularly interesting to avoid infesta…

Using sensory evaluation to fight malnutrition in Madagascar: formulation of a snack rich in essential nutrients
2016
International audience; The aim of this study was to formulate a snack which consumption would contribute to fight against essential nutrientsdeficiencies in Malagasy children. We identified the principal characteristics that would make a food adopted by the Malagasypopulation, using focus groups and questionnaires. Based on households’ food beliefs and practices, specifications were definedto formulate products associating cassava roots and MO leaf powder that would be accepted by the consumers. Four cassavabased snacks were proposed, which varied in MO and sucrose quantities. Hedonic and choice tests were performed with children, which showed that children preferred the sweet product with …
Early impact of a diabetes inducing high-fructose diet on olfaction in mice
2015
The influence of nutritional status on olfactory processes has been thoroughly investigated over the last few years. It is now well-established that both nutritional status and hormones implicated in food metabolism can effectively modulate the olfactory system from the single neuron to the behavior. Therefore, it seems likely that metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes (T2D) can induce olfactory dysfunctions. Indeed T2D patients display poor olfactory performances although the direct effects of diabetes on olfaction were not yet demonstrated. Here, we investigated the modulation of olfaction in young adult (5 weeks old) C57Bl/6 male mice caused by a high-fructose diet (HFruD), known t…

Chapter 68 - Identification of Key Gin Aroma Compounds: An Integrative Approach Based on an Original Selection Procedure
2014
International audience; Potential impact aroma compounds of gin have been identified using Gas Chromatogry Olfactometry Mass-Spectrometry (GC-O-MS). In order to select some of them for a recombination study, we developed a specific procedure. Instead of only choosing the compounds on criteria such as their odor quality or their odor activity values, we also used physico-chemical parameters and information on their botanical origin. Data were organized in blocks homogeneous in terms of parameter type. Different statistical treatments were used in order to classify the compounds either by analyzing the parameters altogether or separately block by block.
