Mechanical behavior of the quadriceps femoris muscle tendon unit during low-load contractions
2008
We examined the relationships between morphology and muscle-tendon dynamics of the quadriceps femoris muscle of 11 men using velocity-encoded phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Thigh muscle electromyography and joint range of motion were first measured outside the MRI scanner during knee extension-flexion tasks that were performed at a rate of 40 times/min with elastic bands providing peak resistance of 5.2 kp (SD 0.4) to the extension. The same movement was repeated inside the MRI scanner bore where tissue velocities and muscle morphology were recorded. The average displacement in the proximal and distal halves of the rectus femoris and vastus intermedius aponeuroses was dif…
Soleus aponeurosis strain distribution following chronic unloading in humans: an in vivo MR phase-contrast study.
2006
The in vivo strain properties of human skeletal muscle-tendon complexes are poorly understood, particularly following chronic periods of reduced load bearing. We studied eight healthy volunteers who underwent 4 wk of unilateral lower limb suspension (ULLS) to induce chronic unloading. Before and after the ULLS, maximum isometric ankle plantar flexion torque was determined by using a magnetic resonance (MR)-compatible dynamometry. Volumes of the triceps surae muscles and strain distribution of the soleus aponeurosis and the Achilles tendon at a constant submaximal plantar flexion (20% pre-maximal voluntary contraction) were measured by using MRI and velocity-encoded, phase-contrast MRI techn…
The cardiac anxiety syndrome ? a subtype of panic attacks
1985
Cardiac anxiety syndrome and the diagnosis of cardiac neurosis respectively are characterized by panic attacks. Panic attacks are the core syndrome of a validated anxiety disorder (panic disorder). The purpose of this study was to investigate if the cardiac anxiety syndrome represents a separate disorder or if it is only a subtype of panic attacks. In a sample of 122 patients with panic attacks, all patients with a cardiac anxiety syndrome were selected (n = 31). Furthermore, parallel to this group--matched in the variables age and sex--a second group of patients with no cardiac anxiety syndrome was selected. There were no significant differences in course; in clinical phenomenology, patien…
Postactivation potentiation can counteract declines in force and power that occur after stretching.
2016
Stretching can decrease a muscle's maximal force, whereas short but intense muscle contractions can increase it. We hypothesized that when combined, postactivation potentiation induced by reactive jumps would counteract stretch-induced decrements in drop jump (DJ) performance. Moreover, we measured changes in muscle twitch forces and ankle joint stiffness (KAnkle ) to examine underlying mechanisms. Twenty subjects completed three DJs and 10 electrically evoked muscle twitches of the triceps surae subsequent to four different conditioning activities and control. The conditioning activities were 10 hops, 20s of static stretching of the triceps surae muscle, 20s of stretching followed by 10 ho…
Exercise-induced changes in tendinous tissue compliance: Outer tendon or aponeurosis?

Simultaneous bilateral occurrence of a M. extensor digiti medii and a M. extensor digitorum brevis.
1993
Summary For the first time, the simultaneous and bilateral occurrence of two variants of the extensors of the fingers, M. extensor digiti medii and M. extensor digitorum brevis, is reported. The extensor of the middle finger arises from the distal fourth of the radius and runs to the base of the proximal phalanx. The short extensor of the fingers arises from the metacarpal region and inserts into the dorsal aponeurosis. Both muscles are innervated by the R. profundus n. radialis.
Freud e Pfister: psicoanalisi e religione
2020
Longitudinal study on reciprocity between personality traits and parenting stress
2014
Reciprocal associations between the Big Five personality traits and parenting stress—including both parents’ feelings of their distress and perception of their incompetence as parents—were studied with 248 participants (49% of which were males). Longitudinal data, collected at ages 33/36, 42 and 50 years, were used. Cross-lagged path analysis revealed that in case of both mothers and fathers, neuroticism at age 33 predicted high parenting stress, and extraversion at age 33 predicted low parenting stress at age 42. Also, parenting stress at age 36 predicted high neuroticism and low extraversion at age 42. From age 42 to 50, only high parenting stress contributed to low neuroticism. Thus, mo…
The dorsal lamina of the rectus sheath: a suitable grafting material for the penile tunica albuginea in Peyronie's disease?
2005
OBJECTIVE To estimate the morphological suitability of human connective tissue structures from different regions as graft material in Peyronie's disease, and to present preliminary results from 12 patients with grafting of corporal bodies using autologous rectus sheath. PATIENTS AND METHODS In five male cadavers the penile tunica albuginea was compared with the dorsal lamina of the rectus sheath, the palmar aponeurosis, the iliotibial tract and the Achilles tendon by using histological sections stained with haematoxylin and eosin, Crossmon's trichrome stain and resorcin-fuchsin. Surgical results and complication rates were investigated in 12 patients with Peyronie's disease after grafting t…
