Attempt to calculation of delayed neutron emission probabilities using simple statistical model considerations

1977

Delayed neutron emission probabilities,P n , have been calculated using usual nuclear statistical model considerations. The influence of the incident parameters on the calculatedP n -values is discussed. The observed systematic deviation from the experimental neutron emission probabilities may be explained by the persistence of nuclear structure effects not contained in a simple statistical model.

β-decay half-lives andβ-delayed neutron emission probabilities of nuclei in the regionA≲110, relevant for the r process

2009

Measurements of $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay properties of $A\ensuremath{\lesssim}110$ r-process nuclei have been completed at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University. $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay half-lives for $^{105}\mathrm{Y}$, $^{106,107}\mathrm{Zr}$, and $^{111}\mathrm{Mo}$, along with $\ensuremath{\beta}$-delayed neutron emission probabilities of $^{104}\mathrm{Y}$, $^{109,110}\mathrm{Mo}$ and upper limits for $^{105}\mathrm{Y}$, $^{103\ensuremath{-}107}\mathrm{Zr}$, and $^{108,111}\mathrm{Mo}$ have been measured for the first time. Studies on the basis of the quasi-random-phase approximation are used to analyze the ground-state deformation of these…

First superheavy element experiments at the GSI recoil separator TASCA: The production and decay of element 114 in thePu244(Ca48,3-4n) reaction

2011

Experiments with the new recoil separator, Transactinide Separator and Chemistry Apparatus (TASCA), at the GSI were performed by using beams of Ca-48 to irradiate targets of Pb206-208, which led to the production of No252-254 isotopes. These studies allowed for evaluation of the performance of TASCA when coupled to a new detector and electronics system. By following these studies, the isotopes of element 114 ((288-291)114) were produced in irradiations of Pu-244 targets with Ca-48 beams at compound nucleus excitation energies around 41.7 and 37.5 MeV, demonstrating TASCA's ability to perform experiments with picobarn-level cross sections. A total of 15 decay chains were observed and were as…

Nuclear structure studies for the astrophysical r-process

2001

Abstract The production of the heaviest elements in nature occurs via the r-process, i.e. a combination of rapid neutron captures, the inverse photodisintegrations, and slower β − -decays, β -delayed processes as well as fission and possibly interactions with intense neutrino fluxes. A correct understanding and modeling requires the knowledge of nuclear properties far from stability and a detailed prescription of the astrophysical environment. Experiments at radioactive ion beam facilities have played a pioneering role in exploring the characteristics of nuclear structure in terms of masses and β -decay properties. Initial examinations paid attention to highly unstable nuclei with magic neu…

Inclusive Nucleon Emission Induced by Quasi--Elastic Neutrino--Nucleus Interactions

2005

We study the quasi--elastic contribution to the inclusive $(\nu_l,\nu_l N)$, $(\nu_l,l^- N)$, $({\bar \nu}_l,{\bar \nu}_l N)$ and $({\bar \nu}_l,l^+ N)$ reactions in nuclei using a Monte Carlo simulation method to account for the rescattering of the outgoing nucleon. As input, we take the reaction probability from the microscopical many body framework developed in Phys. Rev. {\bf C70} (2004) 055503 for charged-current induced reactions, while for neutral currents we use results from a natural extension of the model described in that reference. The nucleon emission process studied here is a clear signal for neutral--current neutrino driven reactions, that can be used in the analysis of futur…

Two-phonon octupole excitation inGd146

2010

Based on experimental evidence from the $^{144}\mathrm{Sm}$($\ensuremath{\alpha},2n$) reaction, the $3484.7$-keV ${6}^{+}$ state in $^{146}\mathrm{Gd}$ is identified as the highest-spin member of the ${3}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{3}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ two-phonon octupole quartet. A previously unknown $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ line of $1905.8$ keV and $E3$ character feeding the ${3}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ octupole state has been observed. These results represent the first observation of a ${6}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{3}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{0}^{+}$ cascade of two $E3$ transitions in an even-even nucleus and provide strong support for the interpretation of the ${6…

Spectroscopy of the neutron-rich hypernucleusHeΛ7from electron scattering

2016

The missing mass spectroscopy of the HeΛ7 hypernucleus was performed using the Li7(e, e ′K+)HeΛ7 reaction at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility Hall C. The Λ- binding energy of the ground-state (1/2+) was determined with a smaller error than that of the previous measurement, being BΛ=5.55±0.10stat.±0.11sys.MeV. The experiment also provided new insight into charge symmetry breaking in p-shell hypernuclear systems. Finally, a peak at BΛ=3.65±0.20stat. ±0.11sys.MeV was observed and assigned as a mixture of 3/2+ and 5/2+ states, confirming the "gluelike" behavior of Λ, which makes an unstable state in He6 stable against neutron emission.

New Beta-delayed Neutron Measurements in the Light-mass Fission Group

2014

A new accurate determination of beta-delayed neutron emission probabilities from nuclei in the low mass region of the light fission group has been performed. The measurements were carried out using the BELEN 4π neutron counter at the IGISOL-JYFL mass separator in combination with a Penning trap. The new results significantly improve the uncertainties of neutron emission probabilities for {sup 91}Br, {sup 86}As, {sup 85}As, and {sup 85}Ge nuclei.

Synthesis ofN=127isotones through (p,n) charge-exchange reactions induced by relativistic208Pb projectiles

2011

The production cross sections of four N=127 isotones ({sup 207}Hg, {sup 206}Au, {sup 205}Pt, and {sup 204}Ir) have been measured using (p,n) charge-exchange reactions, induced in collisions of a {sup 208}Pb primary beam at 1 A GeV with a Be target. These data allow one to investigate the use of a reaction mechanism to extend the limits of the chart of nuclides toward the important r-process nuclei in the region of the third peak of elemental abundance distribution.
