Este texto pretende mostrar algunos aspectos de las representaciones formadas en la opinión pública española acerca de la astronomía y la astrofísica, a partir del análisis de las noticias publicadas en algunas de las cabeceras más destacadas con motivo de la aparición del cometa de Halley en 1910. “I feel, I know, I am immortal”: literary works in the newspapers of Soviet prisons and camps in the 1920s

Abstract The present article sheds new light on the newspapers and other publications of the Soviet prison camps in the 1920s and early 1930s. The first part reconstructs the institutional dynamics that brought about the publication of newspapers, wall newspapers and other periodicals produced inside the camps. The article then focuses on a selection of literary works published by inmates and on the importance of Soviet newspapers published in places of detention as a source for the study not only of the history of the Gulag, but also of its culture and literature.

This article presents a meter for the quantitative analysis of newspaper sport material. The meter makes it possible to measure and classify newspaper sport material in detail. The meter has three levels. The selected level depends on the research purpose and desired measurement accuracy. Measurement can focus on a certain level, or all levels can be used together. Individual variables can also be utilized at a certain level. The three levels with respective level units of observation are: 1) articles, photos, and graphics; 2) sets of articles; and 3) sets of data materials. The representation of mental diseases and psychopharmacological drugs in the media, especially in the press, is thought to be of great impact on people's opinions on the subject. During the course of one year, all articles about psychopharmacological drugs and cardiac drugs published in nineteen German newspapers were collected. All statements, together with related aspects, reasons for prescription, individual details of the patient, effects and side-effects, were registered and classified according to a key. Euro Crisis and plurality: Does the political orientation of newspapers determine the selection and spin of information?

This article studies the impact of right and left moderate political orientation of newspapers on the levels of plurality in the news coverage of the Euro Crisis in 20 newspapers from 10 European countries through a methodology based on Simpson’s D index. The expectation of finding distinct patterns of coverage leading to high levels of plurality was not fully supported and the results have shown that national frames influence levels of overall plurality more than political ideology.
