Frank H. Knight, pragmatism, and American institutionalism: A note

This note deals with the debated question of whether, and to what extent, Frank Knight's epistemology was consistent with the general philosophy of American pragmatism. First, in accord with recent interpretations, I provide new evidence illustrating that Knight's views on science, knowledge and related philosophical topics present some important similarities with the pragmatic tradition. Second, I attempt to demonstrate that Knight's unsympathetic reading of Dewy and pragmatism was, to a relevant extent, a consequence of his aversion to the so-called scientific wing of American interwar institutionalism. © 2009 Taylor & Francis.

El siguiente trabajo expone la aplicación de la Terapia de Exposición, Relajación y Reescritura de la pesadilla (ERRT) en un caso de una joven de 25 años con un diagnóstico previo de Trastorno Límite de la Personalidad. Tras la evaluación se llegó al diagnóstico de un trastorno por pesadillas subagudo moderado y un trastorno de ritmo circadiano de sueño-vigilia secundario, de fases retrasadas episódico y caracterizado por dos tipos de pesadillas recurrentes. La intervención se dividió en cuatro sesiones semanales y cinco sesiones de seguimiento. NIGHT-Care: A Passive RFID System for Remote Monitoring and Control of Overnight Living Environment

AbstractAn Ambient Intelligence platform, NIGHTCare, for remote monitoring and control of overnight living environment is here proposed. The platform, entirely based on RFID passive technology is able to recognize nocturnal behaviors and activities, generates automatic alarms in case of anomalous or pathological events and support diagnostics. The results of a complete test in real scenario are presented, together with a numerical assessment of electromagnetic safety issues.

International audience; Urban Heat Islands (UHIs) at the surface and canopy levels are major issues in urban planification and development. For this reason, the comprehension and quantification of the influence that the different land-uses/land-covers have on UHIs is of particular importance. In order to perform a detailed thermal characterisation of the city, measures covering the whole scenario (city and surroundings) and with a recurrent revisit are needed. The essay, starting from a little-known work of art, the reliquary of the skull of the Blessed Gerland kept at the Diocesan Museum of Caltagirone, deepens this figure of thirteenth century knight of the Order of St John who spent part of his life in Caltagirone, Sicily. The Blessed Gerland is one of the most popular early saints and heroes of the Order, who until now has been considered of Nordic origin, in particular Polish or German.
