Capillary electrochromatography analysis of hormonal cyclic and linear peptides.
2001
The retention behavior of linear and cyclic peptides has been studied by capillary electrochromatography (CEC) with a variety of different n-alkyl silica reversed-phase sorbents and also with mixed-mode phases containing both strong cation-exchange (sulfonic acid) and n-alkyl groups bonded onto the silica surface, using eluents ranging from pH 2.0 to pH 5.0. Depending upon the amino acid sequence, electrochromatographic retention of the peptides was strongly affected by the composition of the eluent, its pH value, and the choice of sorbent packed into the capillaries. The dominant separation processes operating with these charged analytes could be modulated inter alia by the content of orga…
The CEC behaviour of several synthetic peptides related to the activin A-D subunits
2008
The resolution of several structurally related synthetic peptides, derived from the loop 3 region of the activin betaA-betaD subunits, has been studied using capillary electrochromatography (CEC) with Hypersil n-octadecylsilica as the sorbent. The results confirm that the CEC migration of these peptides can be varied in a charge-state-specific manner as the properties of the background electrolyte, such as pH, salt concentration and content of organic modifier, or temperature are systematically changed. Acidic peptides followed similar trends in retention behaviour, which was distinctly different to that shown by more basic peptides. The CEC separation of these peptides with the Hypersil n-…
Synthesis of active principles from the leaves of Moringa oleifera using S-pent-4-enyl thioglycosides
1998
Abstract α - l -Rhamnosides of 4-hydroxy-benzyl compounds with nitrile, carbamate, and thiocarbamate groups occurring in Moringa oleifera leaf extracts and the α - l -rhamnoside of anisaldehyde derivatives were synthesised. Electrophilic activation of S -pent-4-enyl thiorhamnosides was applied for the construction of glycosidic linkages.

A practical entry to β-aryl-β-alkyl amino alcohols: application to the synthesis of a potent BACE1 inhibitor
2012
The 1,2-addition of alkyl Grignard reagents to readily available N-tert-butanesulfinyl ketimines, bearing an α-silyloxy substituent, proceeds in high yields and excellent diastereocontrol. The utility of the present method was demonstrated by the synthesis, in enantiomerically pure form, of one recently disclosed β-secretase (BACE1) inhibitor.
Complexation of planar, organic, five-membered cations with crown ethers
2000
Complexation of six aromatic, nitrogen-containing cations with various crown ethers has been studied using 1H NMR, mass spectrometric and crystallographic methods. Hydrogen bonding appears to be the most important interaction in complexation, but minor effects such as π-stacking or cation–π interactions have also been observed. The stability constants of five different imidazolium perchlorate ·crown ether complexes and five other similar cation·DB18C6 complexes were determined by 1H NMR titration in acetonitrile solution. The stability of these complexes in solution and in the gas phase is discussed. The crystal structures of seven complexes were determined in order to study complexation in…
Single-pump bi-dimensional LC applied to the characterization of derivatized fatty alcohol ethoxylates.
2010
A column selection valve and a 6-port 2-position injection valve were combined to implement bi-dimensional LC in a system driven by a single pump. The system was applied to the separation of linear fatty alcohol ethoxylates with 12-18 carbon atoms in the hydrocarbon moiety, previous derivatization with diphenic anhydride. Separation on the first separation dimension (C(1)) was carried out with a propyl-diol column and an acetonitrile/aqueous ammonium acetate gradient. Fatty alcohol ethoxylate hydrocarbon series (oligomers with the same number of carbon atoms in the alkyl chain but differing in the number of ethylene oxide units) were resolved without distinguishing the oligomers within the …
Structure and luminescence properties of supramolecular polymers of amphiphilic aromatic thioether–peptide conjugates in water
2019
We present the preparation of luminophore–peptide conjugates that self-assemble into supramolecular polymers in neutral buffer. To this end, we have prepared a small library of six conjugates with varying substitution patterns of the aromatic thioethers, as well as varying amino acid sequences. The latter have allowed us to tune the thermodynamic driving force for self-assembly and probe their photoluminescent properties either in the monomeric or polymeric state, while fully avoiding selective solvent techniques or organic solvent mixtures. All of the supramolecular structures were characterised with transmission electron microscopy, circular dichroism measurements, as well as steady-state…
Synthesis of new electroactive polymers by ion-exchange replacement of Mg(II) by 2H+ or Zn(II) cations inside Mg(II) polyporphine film, with their su…
2014
Abstract It has been demonstrated that the treatment of the magnesium polyporphine of type I, pMgP-I, by trifluoroacetic acid in acetonitrile may be used to replace initial central Mg(II) cations inside the monomeric macrocycle units by protons, to get a new electroactive polymer, “free-base polyporphine of type I”, pH2P-I. In its turn, these inserted protons may be replaced by Zn(II) cations via the film treatment with zinc acetate in organic solvent, to get another new electroactive polymer, “zinc polyporphine of type I”, pZnP-I. These changes of central ions inside monomer units manifest themselves by characteristic modifications of their electroactive properties as well as of UV–visible…
Photoelectrochemical Synthesis of Polypyrrole on Anodic Ta[sub 2]O[sub 5] Films
2007
Polypyrrole film was photoelectrochemically grown on insulating Ta 2 O 5 anodic film in acetonitrile solution. A characterization by photocurrent spectroscopy (PCS) of metal/oxide/polypyrrole interface was carried out. The PCS results suggest that a metallic-like PPy is formed under illumination at constant anodic potential. By polarizing the polypyrrole at cathodic potentials a photocurrent spectrum typical of p-type semiconducting film was recorded. A scanning electron microscopy study of PPy surfaces solution side and oxide side allowed us to obtain information on the morphology of the polymer as well as a rough estimate of the film thickness and of the diameter of PPy globules at the tw…
