Gradient elasticity and nonstandard boundary conditions
2003
Abstract Gradient elasticity for a second gradient model is addressed within a suitable thermodynamic framework apt to account for nonlocality. The pertinent thermodynamic restrictions upon the gradient constitutive equations are derived, which are shown to include, besides the field (differential) stress–strain laws, a set of nonstandard boundary conditions. Consistently with the latter thermodynamic requirements, a surface layer with membrane stresses is envisioned in the strained body, which together with the above nonstandard boundary conditions make the body constitutively insulated (i.e. no long distance energy flows out of the boundary surface due to nonlocality). The total strain en…
3D Matrix-Based Visualization System of Association Rules
2017
With the growing number of mining datasets, it becomes increasingly difficult to explore interesting rules because of the large number of resultant and its nature complexity. Studies on human perception and intuition show that graphical representation could be a better illustration of how to seek information from the data using the capabilities of human visual system. In this work, we present and implement a 3D matrix-based approach visualization system of association rules. The main visual representation applies the extended matrix-based approach with rule-to-items mapping to general transaction data set. A novel method merging rules and assigning weight is proposed in order to reduce the …
Predicting hospital associated disability from imbalanced data using supervised learning.
2019
Hospitalization of elderly patients can lead to serious adverse effects on their functional capability. Identifying the underlying factors leading to such adverse effects is an active area of medical research. The purpose of the current paper is to show the potential of artificial intelligence in the form of machine learning to complement the existing medical research. This is accomplished by studying the outcome of hospitalization of elderly patients as a supervised learning task. A rich set of features characterizing the medical and social situation of elderly patients is leveraged and using confusion matrices, association rule mining, and two different classes of supervised learning algo…
Atlantic salmon survival at sea: temporal changes that lack regional synchrony
2022
Spatial and temporal synchrony in abundance or survival trends can be indicative of whether populations are affected by common environmental drivers. In Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.), return rates to natal rivers have generally been assumed to be affected primarily by shared oceanic conditions, leading to spatially synchronous trends in mortality. Here, we investigated the existence of parallel trends in salmon sea survival, using data on migrating smolts and returning adults from seven Canadian populations presumed to share feeding grounds. We analysed sea survival, using a Bayesian change-point model capable of detecting non-stationarity in time series data. Our results indicate that w…
The Datafication of Hate: Expectations and Challenges in Automated Hate Speech Monitoring.
2020
Laaksonen, S-M.; Haapoja, J.; Kinnunen, T., Nelimarkka, M. & Pöyhtäri, R. (2020, accepted). . Frontiers in Big Data: Data Mining and Management / Critical Data and Algorithm Studies. doi:10.3389/fdata.2020.00003 Hate speech has been identified as a pressing problem in society and several automated approaches have been designed to detect and prevent it. This paper reports and reflects upon an action research setting consisting of multi-organizational collaboration conducted during Finnish municipal elections in 2017, wherein a technical infrastructure was designed to automatically monitor candidates' social media updates for hate speech. The setting allowed us to engage in a 2-fold investiga…
Wave propagation in 1D elastic solids in presence of long-range central interactions
2011
Abstract In this paper wave propagation in non-local elastic solids is examined in the framework of the mechanically based non-local elasticity theory established by the author in previous papers. It is shown that such a model coincides with the well-known Kroner–Eringen integral model of non-local elasticity in unbounded domains. The appeal of the proposed model is that the mechanical boundary conditions may easily be imposed because the applied pressure at the boundaries of the solid must be equilibrated by the Cauchy stress. In fact, the long-range forces between different volume elements are modelled, in the body domain, as central body forces applied to the interacting elements. It is …
Inclusive Search for Standard Model Higgs Boson Production in the WW Decay Channel using the CDF II Detector
2010
We present a search for standard model (SM) Higgs boson production using p (p) over bar collision data at root s = 1. 96 TeV, collected with the CDF II detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4. 8 fb(-1). We search for Higgs bosons produced in all processes with a significant production rate and decaying to two W bosons. We find no evidence for SM Higgs boson production and place upper limits at the 95% confidence level on the SM production cross section (sigma(H)) for values of the Higgs boson mass (m(H)) in the range from 110 to 200 GeV. These limits are the most stringent for m(H) > 130 GeV and are 1.29 above the predicted value of sigma(H) for m(H) 165 GeV.
A phase III study (APROMISS) of AL3818 (Catequentinib, Anlotinib) hydrochloride monotherapy in subjects with metastatic or advanced synovial sarcoma.
2021
11505 Background: AL3818 (Catequentinib, Anlotinib) is a novel, orally administered, small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor. The primary objective of this Phase 3 study is to evaluate the efficacy of AL3818 monotherapy in patients (pts) with synovial sarcoma (SS) comparing with dacarbazine in randomization setting. Methods: Patients with a diagnosis of synovial sarcoma requiring second line or further line treatment were eligible for enrollment. The regimen was a 21-day cycle with oral AL3818 administered on 14 days on and 7 days off. This phase 3 trial is randomized in 2:1 ratio of AL3818 comparing to dacarbazine with option of crossover after PD of dacarbazine treatment. Progression fr…
Identification of non-canonical NLRP3 functions in Th17 cells - Therapeutic interest to promote antitumor immune response
2021
Since decades, cancers have become a major public health issue, occupying the first premature mortality cause in France. One of the hallmarks of cancer cells is their ability to escape the immune system surveillance, notably through setting up an immunosuppressive environment within the tumor. The NLRP3 protein is largely studied in the inflammasome context, which is assembled in order to promote inflammation through IL-1β secretion. However, this protein also functions as a transcription factor in CD4+ T cells. Indeed, in Th2 cells, NLRP3 cooperate together with IRF4, to form a complex that is able to activate the transcription of Il4, Il5 and Il13, which are necessary for the function of …

2008
AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to study the existence and asymptotic behavior of solutions for Cauchy problems with nonlocal initial datum generated by accretive operators in Banach spaces.
