Pressure-induced phase transitions in orthovanadates have led to interesting physical phenomena. The observed transitions usually involve large volume collapses and drastic changes in the electronic and vibrational properties of the materials. In some cases, the phase transitions implicate coordination changes in vanadium, which has important consequences in the physical properties of vanadates. Recent experiments on the use of the PEA method for testing dielectric materials in specimens and comparison with a detailed model provide an insight of the phenomenon and suggest the need of adopting similar models also for cables. What is said is even more important considering the possible future adoption of the PEA methodology to test DC cables for Pre-Qualification and Type Tests. Low-temperature luminescence of catangasite single crystals under excitation by vacuum ultraviolet synchrotron radiation

The luminescent properties of Ca3TaGa3Si2O14 (CTGS, catangasite) single crystals have been studied by means of the vacuum ultraviolet excitation spectroscopy utilizing synchrotron radiation from 1.5 GeV storage ring of MAX IV synchrotron facility. Two emission bands at 320 nm (3.87 eV) and 445 nm (2.78 eV) have been detected. Examining excitation spectra in vacuum ultraviolet spectral range, the 320 nm emission band was explained as the emission band of self-trapped exciton in CTGS single crystal. Its atomic structure is discussed. It is also proposed that the 445 nm (2.78 eV) emission in the CTGS is due to the F centers, which have shown a well-resolved excitation (absorption) band at 5.1 …
Photoelectron Emission from Metal Surfaces Induced by Radiation Emitted by a 14 GHz Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source

Photoelectron emission measurements have been performed using a room-temperature 14 GHz ECR ion source. It is shown that the photoelectron emission from Al, Cu, and stainless steel (SAE 304) surfaces, which are common plasma chamber materials, is predominantly caused by radiation emitted from plasma with energies between 8 eV and 1 keV. Characteristic X-ray emission and bremsstrahlung from plasma have a negligible contribution to the photoelectron emission. It is estimated from the measured data that the maximum conceivable photoelectron flux from plasma chamber walls is on the order of 10% of the estimated total electron losses from the plasma. peerReviewed
Creation and thermal annealing of structural defects in neutron-irradiated MgAl 2 O 4 single crystals

Abstract Several novel hole-type defects (a hole localized at a regular oxygen ion near a negatively charged structural defect) have been revealed in fast neutron irradiated MgAl2O4 crystals using the EPR method. The pulse annealing of the EPR signal of these centers was compared to that of radiation induced optical absorption in the same crystals. Taking into account the determined models of V1, V2 and V22 paramagnetic centers, the tentative scenario of the thermal annealing process of neutron-induced defects (hole-type and complementary electron F-type ones) is proposed. The Acoustic Wave Behavior Within the PEA Cell for Space Charge Measurement

In order to evaluate the acoustic wave behavior within the Pulsed Electro Acoustic (PEA) cell, a simulation model has been developed in this work. The model, implemented in Matlab environment, is based on the analogy between acoustic and electrical quantities. Therefore, it was possible to model the PEA cell as cascade connected lossy transmission lines. The model has been validated theoretically by making a comparison with a simulation result found in literature. The experimental validation has also been made by using the PEA cell of the LEPRE high voltage lab. In addition, four graphs have been realized.
