The PAH composition of surface sediments from Stagnone coastal lagoon, Marsala (Italy)
2006
Abstract This paper examines the presence, distribution, nature and sources of 22 Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are important environmentally and toxicologically, in sediments from the Stagnone coastal lagoon at Marsala (Italy). Analysis was performed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) with selected ion monitoring (SIM). The total concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ranged from 72 to 18381 μg/kg of dry matrix. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the replicates on the concentrations of individual compounds ranged from 5% to 20%. The accuracy of method was estimated by analyzing “blank” samples added of known quantities of analytes and the recover percent…
Electronic fluxes during diels-alder reactions involving 1,2-benzoquinones: mechanistic insights from the analysis of electron localization function …
2012
By means of the joint use of electron localization function (ELF) and Thom's catastrophe theory, a theoretical analysis of the energy profile for the hetero-Diels-Alder reaction of 4-methoxy-1,2-benzoquinone 1 and methoxyethylene 2 has been carried out. The 12 different structural stability domains obtained by the bonding evolution theory have been identified as well as the bifurcation catastrophes (fold and cusp) responsible for the changes in the topology of the system. This analysis permits finding a relationship between the ELF topology and the evolution of the bond breaking/forming processes and electron pair rearrangements through the reaction progress in terms of the different ways o…
Diastereoselective synthesis of spongian diterpenes. Total synthesis of the furanoditerpene (−)-spongia-13(16),14-diene
1999
Abstract An effective diastereoselective synthesis of the marine-sponge metabolite (−)-spongia-13(16),14-diene 1 is achieved starting from S-(+)-carvone via a homochiral phenanthrenone as the key intermediate for the construction of the furan ring system. S-(+)-Carvone was transformed into the phenanthrenone 2a in six steps (53% overall yield), using an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction as the key step. Conversion of the enone function in 2a into an epoxyaldehyde function followed by cyclisation and aromatisation in acid conditions completed the construction of ring D.
A method for the determination of dimethylamine in air by collection on solid support sorbent with subsequent derivatization and spectrophotometric a…
2005
A new method for dimethylamine determination in air is reported. The proposed assay is based on the employment of C18-packed solid phase extraction cartridges for sampling. The retained amine is then derivatized inside the cartridges with the reagent 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate. By observing the coloured area of the cartridge, a semiquantitative estimation of the amine can be made. It was also possible to distinguish between primary and secondary amines by visual inspection. Quantitative tests entailed desorption from the cartridges of the derivatives formed, and measurement of the absorbance of the collected extracts. The selected conditions were applied to quantify dimethylamine up to …
Revisiting the charge density analysis of 2,5-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone at 20 K
2017
A high-resolution X-ray diffraction measurement of 2,5-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone (DCBQ) at 20 K was carried out. The experimental charge density was modeled using the Hansen–Coppens multipolar expansion and the topology of the electron density was analyzed in terms of the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM). Two different multipole models, predominantly differentiated by the treatment of the chlorine atom, were obtained. The experimental results have been compared to theoretical results in the form of a multipolar refinement against theoretical structure factors and through direct topological analysis of the electron density obtained from the optimized periodic wavefunction. The si…
Electron paramagnetic resonance, ENDOR and TRIPLE resonance study of some 9,10-anthraquinone radicals in solution
1992
EPR, ENDOR and TRIPLE resonance spectra were recorded for 1,8-dihydroxy-3-methyl-9,10-anthraquinone and 9,10-anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid anion radicals and the 9,10-anthraquinol-2-carboxylic acid cation radical. EPR spectra were recorded for the 5,8-dideuterio-1,4-dideuterioxy-9,10-anthraquinone anion radical, the 6,7-dideuterio-1,4-dideuterioxy-9,10-anthraquinone anion radical and the 1,4-dihydroxy-9,10-anthraquinol cation radical. The coupling contants of the 1,4-dihydroxy-9,10-anthraquinone anion radical were assigned by deuteriation.
Oligomere aus gleichsinnig angeordneten Chalkon-Bausteinen
1999
The cross-conjugated oligomers 1a–d, which contain up to eight alternately arranged chalcone building blocks, were prepared by stereoselective condensation reactions of formyl and acetyl components. The synthetic sequence started with 1,4-dibromo-2,5-dipropoxybenzene (2). Bouveault reactions with DMF and DMA yielded the aldehydes 3 and 6 and the ketones 7 and 10. After the protection of the carbonyl group (3 4 and 7 8), a further Bouveault reaction led to monoprotected dialdehyd 5 and diketone 9, respectively. Repetitive condensation reactions starting with the acetophenone derivative 11 and 5 furnished the aldehyde 12, the ketone 13 and the aldehyde 14. In the final step the target compoun…

Fixed point theory for a class of generalized nonexpansive mappings
2011
AbstractIn this paper we introduce two new classes of generalized nonexpansive mapping and we study both the existence of fixed points and their asymptotic behavior.
Uniformly nonsquare Banach spaces have the fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings
2006
Abstract It is shown that if the modulus Γ X of nearly uniform smoothness of a reflexive Banach space satisfies Γ X ′ ( 0 ) 1 , then every bounded closed convex subset of X has the fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings. In particular, uniformly nonsquare Banach spaces have this property since they are properly included in this class of spaces. This answers a long-standing question in the theory.
