Le gisement a été fouillé de 1980 à 1991 par Patrick Paupe et son équipe, qui y a recueilli 52 espèces de mammifères (plus de 10 000 restes déterminables), au moins 13 espèces d'oiseaux, deux de reptiles, une d'amphibien, deux espèces de poissons et des gastéropodes indéterminés. International audience; The Uppermost Middle Pleistocene site of Romain-la-Roche (Doubs, France) : synthesis of biostratigraphic and palaeoecological conclusions.- The site of Romain-la-Roche is a karstic swallowhole which acted as a natural trap where fall numerous large mammals, and where diverse small vertebrates were transported as preys of birds. The site was excavated between 1980 and 1991 by Patrick Paupe and his team. Roman building materials often arose a growing interest through their presence in early contexts, sometimes way before Gallic Wars. Made from natural resources, their final shape corresponds to anthropogenic and cultural constraints. However, even if building materials are not neglected during archaeological excavations, so far they have been considered as playing a minor part in understanding ancient sites. Il volume ha un impianto spiccatamente duale, che riflettendosi sul testo e marcandone la struttura riesce a produrre un confronto serrato nel quale la specificità degli sguardi non si disperde né confonde, alimentando un fitto gioco di rimandi e allacciamenti. L’introduzione, nella versione sdoppiata messa a punto dai curatori, svela pur non tematizzandolo esplicitamente il primo punto di contatto fra i due oriz- zonti disciplinari.
