Small-$x$ Physics in the Dipole Picture at NLO Accuracy

2018

International audience; We review recent progress in NLO calculations for dilute-dense processes in the CGC picture. In particular, we focus here on recent steps in understanding high energy renormalization group evolution (BK/JIMWLK), the total DIS cross section at small x and forward particle production in proton-nucleus collisions at next-to-leading order.

The Ground State of the 2-Dimensional Potts Glass

1992

We study the ground state of the 3-state Potts glass in 2 dimensions with a Gaussian distribution of couplings by domain wall renormalization group techniques. We find that the glass correlation function decays to a finite value within a distance of about 2.4 lattice spacings. Thus, there is long-range order in the ground state even though, as found earlier, there is a finite zero-point entropy.

Relative importance of second-order terms in relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics

2014

[Introduction] In Denicol et al. [Phys. Rev. D 85 , 114047 (2012)], the equations of motion of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics were derived from the relativistic Boltzmann equation. These equations contain a multitude of terms of second order in the Knudsen number, in the inverse Reynolds number, or their product. Terms of second order in the Knudsen number give rise to nonhyperbolic (and thus acausal) behavior and must be neglected in (numerical) solutions of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics. The coefficients of the terms which are of the order of the product of Knudsen and inverse Reynolds numbers have been explicitly computed in the above reference, in the limit of a massl…

Administration of recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEpo) improves performance and hence is subject to abuse by athletes. The detection of rHuEpo doping remains a major challenge at present. The aim of the current study was to investigate whether circulating microRNA (miRNA) can be used for detecting r-HuEpo doping. Twenty trained males received rHuEpo injections of 50 IU∙kg -1 body mass every two days for 4 weeks. Blood was obtained 2 weeks before, during and 4 weeks after administration. For this pilot analysis, plasma miRNA expression was assessed at selected time points using the Affymetrix GeneChip 3.0 and the miScript 384 HC PCR Array (Qiagen). For the Affymetrix microarray data, GC…

Multiple Pluripotent Stem Cell Markers in Human Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer: The Putative Upstream Role of SOX2

2013

Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is a rare and aggressive endocrine tumor with highly undifferentiated morphology. It has been suggested that cancer stem cells (CSCs) might play a central role in ATC. The objectives of this study were (i) to characterize CSCs from ex vivo ATC specimens by investigating the expression of several pluripotent stem cell markers, and (ii) to evaluate in vitro drug resistance modifications after specific CSC transcription factor switch-off.In ex vivo experiments, eight formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded ATC specimens were analyzed by reverse-transcription and real-time quantitative PCR and immunohistochemistry. In in vitro experiments using ATC SW1736 cells, the…

Local properties of quantum chemical systems: the LoProp approach.

2004

A new method is presented, which makes it possible to partition molecular properties like multipole moments and polarizabilities, into atomic and interatomic contributions. The method requires a subdivision of the atomic basis set into occupied and virtual basis functions for each atom in the molecular system. The localization procedure is organized into a series of orthogonalizations of the original basis set, which will have as a final result a localized orthonormal basis set. The new localization procedure is demonstrated to be stable with various basis sets, and to provide physically meaningful localized properties. Transferability of the methyl properties for the alkane series and of t…

The Correlation of the Principles of International Law in the Context of Nagorno-Karabagh Conflict Resolution

2009

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is one of the most bloody and large-scale conflicts in the post-Soviet region. This is an old conflict with its own genesis and internal dynamics. The conflict is considered to be a real obstacle to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Different political and economic factors play a major role in the regulation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: the geostrategic interests of regional hegemons and the question of who controls its oil riches. Not surprisingly, the process of conflict regulation in Nagorno-Karabakh is a highly politicized issue. To date, little or no attention has been paid to the legal aspects of the conflict, and the pos…
