Norman Edwin Himes's "Eugenics and Democracy: A Call to Action" (1939). The Eugenic Manifesto of a Devote Carverian
2022
This note presents an unpublished 1939 address given by the American sociologist and population specialist Norman Edwin Himes on "Eugenics and Democracy: A Call to Action. Himes's discussion of eugenics and democracy has a two-fold relevance. First, it provides further evidence that among population studies specialists a generalized commitment to eugenics persisted well beyond the era of the so-called Progressive Era and continued throughout the 1930s. Second, Himes's approach reveals an attempt to reformulate a eugenic agenda along "liberal" lines, which was intended to distance him from the coercive and racialist approach of his progressive predecessors. Yet, it will be shown, even though…

Between the 7th and 10th centuries, the “Moulin Vaquet"site, near Honguemare-Guenouville (Eure) on the Roumois Plateau, was occupied by a village – a rural settlement built around a necropolis, likely dominated by a wooden church. The 8,600m2 excavation of the site run by MADE (the Eure archaeological mission) complements the INRAP excavations a few hundred …
VESTIGIA SARACENE E NORMANNE PER ILLUSTRARE "THE NORMANS IN SICILY"
2021

2019
Conrad of Querfurt (ca. 1160–1202) was one of the most important and influential German bishops at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. He was associated with the Hohenstaufen dynasty. As a result, he became the bishop of Hildesheim (1194–1199), and then the bishop of Würzburg (1198–1202), as well as served two German kings from that family as chancellor (1194–1201). Conrad of Querfurt was a man of extremely broad political horizons and great ambitions. It was not a coincidence that the title of chancellor, along with the governorship of the Norman kingdom, was given to him by Henry VI. He took great care of his public image, which he proved by sponsoring the work of Peter of Eboli, tit…
