Sexually deceptive orchid flowers use visual, tactile and olfactory cues of female insects in order to attract males of one or a few closely related species as pollinators. Ophrys L. is the most species-rich genus of sexually deceptive orchids in the Mediterranean Basin. Care Workers’ Readiness for Robotization : Identifying Psychological and Socio-Demographic Determinants

Successful implementation of robots in welfare services requires that the staff approves of them as a part of daily work tasks. In this study, we identified psychological and socio-demographic determinants associated with readiness for robotization among professional Finnish care-workers. National survey data were collected from professional care workers (n = 3800) between October and November 2016. Random samples were drawn from the member registers of two Finnish trade unions. Isometric embeddings of snowflakes into finite-dimensional Banach spaces

We consider a general notion of snowflake of a metric space by composing the distance by a nontrivial concave function. We prove that a snowflake of a metric space $X$ isometrically embeds into some finite-dimensional normed space if and only if $X$ is finite. In the case of power functions we give a uniform bound on the cardinality of $X$ depending only on the power exponent and the dimension of the vector space.

We report the results of research on the Carex panormitana Guss. (Cyperaceae) population in Sicily, carried out within its locus classicus at the Oreto River (Palermo). The survey led to a morphological, biological and autoecological characterization, to the definition of the current distribution in the site, to an estimate of the number of individuals and to an analysis of its conservation status. Abstract Let A be the set of all equivalent norms on l 1 which satisfy the FPP. We prove that A contains rays. In fact, every renorming in l 1 which verifies condition (⁎) in Theorem 2.1 is the starting point of a (closed or open) ray composed by equivalent norms on l 1 with the FPP. The standard norm ‖ ⋅ ‖ 1 or P.K. Linʼs norm defined in Lin (2008) [12] are examples of such norms. Moreover, we study some topological properties of the set A with respect to some equivalent metrics defined on the set of all norms on l 1 equivalent to ‖ ⋅ ‖ 1 .

Sigma-fragmentability and the property SLD in C(K) spaces

AbstractWe characterize two topological properties in Banach spaces of type C(K), namely, being σ-fragmented by the norm metric and having a countable cover by sets of small local norm-diameter (briefly, the property norm-SLD). We apply our results to deduce that Cp(K) is σ-fragmented by the norm metric when K belongs to a certain class of Rosenthal compacta as well as to characterize the property norm-SLD in Cp(K) in case K is scattered.

Banal Sustainability : Renewing the Cultural Norm of Not Wasting Food

Recently food waste has been raised as a major sustainability problem: roughly one third of the food produced globally ends up lost or wasted. This article investigates how people attach meaning to food waste reduction, based on eight individual interviews conducted with people met at a consumer education event in Helsinki in 2017. It is shown how the traditional cultural norm of not wasting food is reproduced in discourse on thrift and frugality and renewed by research-based arguments from circular economy discourse and environmental and sustainability discourse.
