Zgodnie z twierdzeniem M. Fullan'a permanentna zmiana jest jedną z najbardziej typowych cech społeczeństwa postmodernistycznego. Zmiany dotyczą także systemów edukacyjnych, w całości, albo ich poszczególnych elementów. Do kategorii zmian zalicza się reformy, ulepszenia, usprawnienia, a także innowacje. Jedną z istotnych zmian występujących w polskim systemie szkolnym są innowacje pedagogiczne realizowane przez nauczycieli na różnych szczeblach edukacji. W tekście zaprezentowano rolę nauczyciela w tworzeniu innowacji jako zmiany zawierającej elementy nowości, wprowadzanej świadomie do systemu szkolnego w celu ulepszania praktyki edukacyjnej.
