Control of Production-Distribution Systems under Discrete Disturbances and Control Actions

This paper deals with the robust control and optimization of production-distribution systems. The model used in our problem formulation is a general network flow model that describes production, logistics, and transportation applications. The novelty in our formulation is in the discrete nature of the control and disturbance inputs. We highlight three main contributions: First, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of robustly control invariant hyperboxes. Second, we show that a stricter version of the same condition is sufficient for global convergence to an invariant set. Novelty seeking (NS), defined as a tendency to pursue novel and intense emotional sensations and experiences, is one of the most relevant individual factors predicting drug use among humans. High novelty seeking (HNS) individuals present an increased risk of drug use compared to low novelty seekers. The NS endophenotype may explain some of the differences observed among individuals exposed to drugs of abuse in adolescence. Electrophysiological evidence for change detection in speech sound patterns by anesthetized rats

Human infants are able to detect changes in grammatical rules in a speech sound stream. Here, we tested whether rats have a comparable ability by using an electrophysiological measure that has been shown to reflect higher order auditory cognition even before it becomes manifested in behavioral level. Urethane-anesthetized rats were presented with a stream of sequences consisting of three pseudowords carried out at a fast pace. This note presents the summary and the analysis of citations, allusions and references to Plautus’s comedies in «The Last Days of Pompeii» by Edward Bulwer-Lytton. From the analysis here conducted it emerges that the English writer used Plautus for precise purposes, for ironic and satirical resolutions, appropriately contextualizing the allusions to Plautus within the plot of the novel.

The aim of this study is to determine the existence of specific and unique features characterising markets, activities and customers in at least two of the most representative high technology sectors nowadays, the microelectronics/software industry and the biotechnology/biomedical industry.
