Abstract Three new polyamine conjugates with stigmasterol [(3β,22 E )-stigmasta-5,22-dien-3-ol] were synthesized and subjected to basic antimicrobial and cytotoxic tests. The conjugate derived from spermine, (3β,22 E )-stigmasta-5,22-dien-3-yl 4(12-amino-4,9-diaza-dodecylamino)-4-oxobutanoate ( 5c ), displayed considerable antimicrobial activity on Staphylococcus aureus at low concentration (50 μg mL −1 ). The cytotoxic activity was tested on cells of human T-lymfoblastic leukemia (IC 50 = 35.8 ± 10.3 μM ( 5c ) and IC 50 = 35.9 ± 5.7 μM ( 5b )) and normal human fibroblasts (IC 50 = 38.0 ± 2.8 μM ( 5c ) and IC 50 = 45.5 ± 1.9 μM ( 5b )). Conjugate 5a displayed no activity in both tests.
Search compounds with antimicrobial activity by applying molecular topology to selected quinolones.

Molecular topology was used to obtain substances with antimicrobial activity. Selected quinolones were employed to develop the corresponding connectivity functions and discriminant equation. Limiting functions were selected that allowed the discriminant function to more efficiently distinguish substances with and without antibacterial activity. Antibacterial tests were run to confirm the theoretically established activity.

Photosynthesized silver-polyaminocyclodextrin nanocomposites as promising antibacterial agents with improved activity

Ag nanocomposites were prepared by photoreduction of ammoniacal silver acetate in the presence of poly-{6-[3-(2-(3-aminopropylamino)ethylamino)propylamino]}-(6-deoxy)-β-CD (amCD). The obtained systems were characterized by means of various complementary techniques (UV-vis, FT-IR, TEM, SAED). In particular, FT-IR spectroscopy evidenced a partial oxidative degradation of the polyamine branches of the capping auxiliary, due to the fact that these groups function as a sacrificial reducing agent in the photoinduced formation of the Ag metal core. Chemical sanitizers continue to be widely used by the food industry to disinfect food contact surfaces. However, as some chemical disinfectants have been reported to produce unhealthy by-products, alternative and natural compounds need to be investigated. To this end, nine essential oils (EOs) were screened to develop a natural sanitizing solution (SAN) for disinfecting food contact surfaces. Abstract Several new 4-diazopyrazole derivatives were prepared by the reaction of 3-methyl-5(substituted-benzamido)pyrazoles with an excess of nitrous acid in acetic acid solution. The compounds were tested for antiretroviral activity in HIV-1 infected MT-4 cells and antiproliferative effects against a panel of human leukemia, lymphoma and solid tumor cell lines. Bacterial growth in the urinary tract is usually prevented by host factors including bacterial eradication by urinary and mucus flow, urothelial bactericidal activity, urinary secretory IgA, and blood group antigens in secretions which interfere with bacterial adherence. Bacterial eradication from the urinary tract is partially dependent on urine flow and voiding frequency.
