The goal of this thesis is to apply the optimal control theory to the dynamics of quantum systems.The first part aim at introducing the tools of optimal control in quantum control which were initially developedin mathematics. This approch has been applied on different kinds of quantum system with small and largedimensions. New site-specific bioconjugation strategies and their application to the development of molecular imaging agents for cancer diagnostic

The preparation of targeted imaging agents suitable for cancer diagnostic involves the coupling of an imaging probe to a vector, generally a protein, able to specifically target cancerous tissues. Unfortunately, this bioconjugation step is often problematic. Indeed, proteins present a large variety of reactive functions that can potentially interfere with the coupling reaction. Study of the fuel/clad bonding of pressurized water reactors fuel rods

Durability and integrity of materials used in nuclear power plants is a continuous concern of the nuclear power plant owners and developers. During the fuel irradiation in pressurised water reactors (PWR), the whole fuel-clad assembly is subjected to several irradiation-induced modifications. In particular, the fuel element expansion concomitant to the cladding creeping, leads to the contacting of both materials, allowing the oxidation of the inner side of the clad, locally at first, then tending to affect the overall cladding inner surface. Optimal control of spin-systems: Applications to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Quantum Information

The goal of this thesis is to apply the optimal control theory to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Quantum Information. In a first step, we introduce the different topics and the dynamics of the analyzed systems. We give the necessary tools to use the Pontryagin Maximum Principle, and also an optimization algorithm, namely GRAPE. The first work is an application of the PMP to the control of a three-spin chain with unequal couplings. Physical, chemical and mechanical evolution of the fuel-cladding interface in irradiated PWR fuel rods

During the fuel irradiation in nuclear reactor, the fuel-cladding assembly is exposed to several irradiation-induced modifications. The fuel swelling coupled with cladding creep leads to a contact between the fuel and the cladding. The oxygen transport from the UO2 fuel to the zirconium layer induces progressively the Zr-cladding oxidation. This oxidation is initially local with the formation of islets. Then, with the increasing burnup of the fuel, it conducts to a continuous layer of about 8-µm thickness, localized at the fuel-cladding interface. At high burnup, zirconia growths anchor themselves in the periphery of the fuel (which is restructured) leading to pellet/cladding interlocking. …

Optimal control and shortcuts to adiabaticity techniques in linear and non-linear systems : from ion cyclotron resonance to nuclear magnetic resonance

The goal of our research is to develop efficient and robust control protocols for classical and quantum systems. To this end, we have applied optimal control theory (OCT) and shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) with inverse engineering and motion planning approaches in three different examples, which are RC (Resistor Capacitor) circuits, Fourier Transform-Ion Cyclotron Resonance (FT-ICR), and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR).
