Assessment of the Thermo-mechanical Performances of a DEMO Water-Cooled Liquid Metal Blanket Module

Within the framework of DEMO R&D activities, a research cooperation has been launched between ENEA-Brasimone, CEA-Saclay and the University of Palermo to investigate the thermo-mechanical behaviour of the outboard equatorial module of the DEMO1 Water-Cooled Lithium Lead (WCLL) blanket, both under normal operation and over-pressurization steady state scenarios. Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton at Intermediate $Q^2$

Background: Generalized polarizabilities (GPs) are important observables to describe the nucleon structure, and measurements of these observables are still scarce. Purpose: This paper presents details of a virtual Compton scattering (VCS) experiment, performed at the A1 setup at the Mainz Microtron by studying the $e p \to e p \gamma$ reaction. The article focuses on selected aspects of the analysis. Description of light nuclei in pionless effective field theory using the stochastic variational method

We construct a coordinate-space potential based on pionless effective field theory with a Gaussian regulator. Charge-symmetry breaking is included through the Coulomb potential and through two- and three-body contact interactions. Starting with the effective field theory potential, we apply the stochastic variational method to determine the ground states of nuclei with mass number $A\leq 4$. At next-to-next-to-leading order, two out of three independent three-body parameters can be fitted to the three-body binding energies. Dawning of the N=32 shell closure seen through precision mass measurements of neutron-rich titanium isotopes

A precision mass investigation of the neutron-rich titanium isotopes 51 − 55 Ti was performed at TRIUMF’s Ion Trap for Atomic and Nuclear science (TITAN). The range of the measurements covers the N = 32 shell closure, and the overall uncertainties of the 52 − 55 Ti mass values were significantly reduced. Our results conclusively establish the existence of the weak shell effect at N = 32 , narrowing down the abrupt onset of this shell closure. Our data were compared with state-of-the-art ab initio shell model calculations which, despite very successfully describing where the N = 32 shell gap is strong, overpredict its strength and extent in titanium and heavier isotones. Coherent neutrino scattering

We present a microscopic model for coherent pion production off nuclei induced by neutrinos. This model is built upon a model for single nucleon processes that goes beyond the usual Delta dominance by including non resonant background contributions. We include nuclear medium effects: medium corrections to Delta$ properties and outgoing pion absortion via an optical potential. This results in major modifications to cross sections for low energy experiments when compared with phenomenological models like Rein-Sehgal's.

Probing Surface Quantum Flows in Deformed Pygmy Dipole Modes

In order to explore the nature of collective modes in weakly bound nuclei, we have investigated deformation effects and surface flow patterns of isovector dipole modes in a shape-coexisting nucleus $^{40}$Mg. The calculations were done in a fully self-consistent continuum finite-amplitude Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA) in a large deformed spatial mesh. An unexpected result of pygmy and giant dipole modes having disproportionate deformation splittings in strength functions was obtained. Asymptotic normalization coefficients and continuum coupling in mirror nuclei

Background: An asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) characterizes the asymptotic form of a one-nucleon overlap integral required for description of nucleon-removal reactions. Purpose: We investigate the impact of the particle continuum on proton and neutron ANCs for mirror systems from $p$- and $sd$-shell regions. Method: We use the real-energy and complex-energy continuum shell model approaches. Results: We studied the general structure of the single-particle ANCs as a function of the binding energy and orbital angular momentum. Second-forbidden nonunique $��^-$ decays of $^{59,60}$Fe: Possible candidates for $g_A$ sensitive electron spectral-shape measurements

In this work, we present a theoretical study of the electron spectral shapes for the second-forbidden nonunique $��^-$-decay transitions $^{59}\textrm{Fe}(3/2^-)\to\,^{59}\textrm{Co}(7/2^-)$ and $^{60}\textrm{Fe}(0^+)\to\,^{60}\textrm{Co}(2^+)$ in the framework of the nuclear shell model. We have computed the involved wave functions by carrying out a complete $0\hbar��$ calculation in the full $fp$ model space using the KB3G and GXPF1A effective interactions. When compared with the available data, these interactions predict the low-energy spectra and electromagnetic properties of the involved nuclei quite successfully. The $K \bar K ��$ decay of the $f_1(1285)$ and its nature as a $K^* \bar K -cc$ molecule

We investigate the decay of $f_1(1285) \to ��K \bar K$ with the assumption that the $f_1(1285)$ is dynamically generated from the $K^* \bar{K} - cc$ interaction. In addition to the tree level diagrams that proceed via $f_1(1285) \to K^* \bar{K} - cc \to ��K \bar K$, we take into account also the final state interactions of $K \bar K \to K \bar K$ and $��K \to ��K$. The partial decay width and mass distributions of $f_1(1285) \to ��K \bar K$ are evaluated. We get a value for the partial decay width which, within errors, is in fair agreement with the experimental result. Photoproduction of the $f'_2(1525)$ and $K^*_2(1430)$

Assuming that the $f'_2(1525)$ and $K^*_2(1430)$ resonances are dynamically generated states from the vector meson-vector meson interactions in $S$-wave with spin $S=2$, we study the $��p \to f'_2(1525) p$ and $��p \to K^*_2(1430) ��(��)$ reactions. These reactions proceed in the following way: the incoming photon first mutates into a $��^0$, $��$, or $��$ meson via vector meson dominance, which then interacts with the $��^0$, $��$ or $K^*$ emitted by the incoming proton to form the tensor mesons $f'_2(1525)$ and $K^*_2(1430)$.
