Deep Inelastic Scattering in the Dipole Picture at Next-to-Leading Order
2021
This thesis studies gluon saturation in hadronic matter at high energy by calculating next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections to inclusive and diffractive deep inelastic scattering cross sections in the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective field theory. We demonstrate that the large soft gluon logarithm is correctly factorized into the Balitsky-Kovchegov (BK) renormalization group equation by accurately connecting the NLO scattering kinematics to the rapidity scale of the dipole amplitude in the scattering. This brings the perturbative expansion under control and enables us to do precision comparisons between theory and data. We fit the initial condition of the BK evolution equation to HE…
Exclusive $c\to s,d$ semileptonic decays of ground-state spin-1/2 doubly charmed baryons
2011
We evaluate exclusive semileptonic decays of ground-state spin-1/2 doubly heavy charmed baryons driven by a $c\to s,d$ transition at the quark level. Our results for the form factors are consistent with heavy quark spin symmetry constraints which are valid in the limit of an infinitely massive charm quark and near zero recoil. Only a few exclusive semileptonic decay channels have been theoretically analyzed before. For those cases we find that our results are in a reasonable agreement with previous calculations.
Parton correlations effects in double parton distribution functions
2017
Double parton distribution functions (dPDFs), measurable in hadron-hadron collisions and encoding information on how partons inside a proton are correlated among each other, could represent a new tool to explore the three dimensional partonic structure of hadrons. In the present contribution, results of the calculations of dPFDs are presented. Phenomenological calculations of experimental observables, sensitive to dPDFs are also discussed showing how double parton correlations could be estimated in the next LHC run.
Signatures of gluon saturation from structure-function measurements
2022
We study experimentally observable signals for nonlinear QCD dynamics in deep inelastic scattering (DIS) at small Bjorken variable $x$ and moderate virtuality $Q^2$, by quantifying differences between the linear Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution and nonlinear evolution with the Balitsky-Kovchegov (BK) equation. To remove the effect of the parametrization freedom in the initial conditions of both equations, we first match the predictions for the DIS structure functions $F_2$ and $F_{\rm L}$ from both frameworks in a region in $x,Q^2$ where both frameworks should provide an accurate description of the relevant physics. The differences in the dynamics are then quanti…
Event-by-event fluctuations in perturbative QCD + saturation + hydro model: pinning down QCD matter shear viscosity in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion co…
2015
We introduce an event-by-event perturbative-QCD + saturation + hydro ("EKRT") framework for ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, where we compute the produced fluctuating QCD-matter energy densities from next-to-leading order perturbative QCD using a saturation conjecture to control soft particle production, and describe the space-time evolution of the QCD matter with dissipative fluid dynamics, event by event. We perform a simultaneous comparison of the centrality dependence of hadronic multiplicities, transverse momentum spectra, and flow coefficients of the azimuth-angle asymmetries, against the LHC and RHIC measurements. We compare also the computed event-by-event probability distrib…
Is the Theta(+) a K pi N bound state?
2003
Following a recent suggestion that the $\Theta ^+$ could be a $K \pi N$ bound state we perform an investigation under the light of the meson meson and meson baryon dynamics provided by the chiral Lagrangians and using methods currently employed to dynamically generate meson and baryon resonances by means of unitary extensions of chiral perturbation theory. We consider two body and three body forces and examine the possibility of a bound state below the three particle pion-kaon-nucleon and above the kaon-nucleon thresholds. Although we find indeed an attractive interaction in the case of isospin I=0 and spin-parity $1/2^+$, the interaction is too weak to bind the system. If we arbitrarily ad…
Interaction of vector mesons with baryons and vectors in the nuclear medium
2012
In this talk we present a short review of recent developments concerning the interaction of vector mesons with baryons and with nuclei. We begin with the hidden gauge formalism for the interaction of vector mesons, then review results for vector baryon interaction and in particular the resonances which appear as composite states, dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with baryons. New developments concerning the mixing of these states with pseudoscalars and baryons are also reported. We include some discussion on the $5/2^+$ $\Delta$ resonances around 2000 MeV, where we suggest that the $\Delta(2000)5/2^+$ resonance, which comes in the PDG from averaging a set of reson…
Weak Strangeness and Eta Production
2013
We have studied strange particle production off nucleons through $\Delta S =0 $ and $|\Delta S| = 1$ channels, and specifically single kaon/antikaon, eta, associated particle production for neutrino/antineutrino induced processes as well as antineutrino induced single hyperon production processes. We have developed a microscopical model based on the SU(3) chiral Lagrangians. The basic parameters of the model are $f_\pi$, the pion decay constant, Cabibbo angle, the proton and neutron magnetic moments and the axial vector coupling constants for the baryons octet. For antikaon production we have also included $\Sigma^*(1385)$ resonance and for eta production $S_{11}(1535)$ and $S_{11}(1650)$ r…
Pion photo- and electroproduction with chiral MAID
2013
We present a calculation of pion photo- and electroproduction in manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory up to and including order $q^4$. We fix the low-energy constants by fitting experimental data in all available reaction channels. Our results can be accessed via a web interface, the so-called chiral MAID. We explain how our program works and how it can be used for further analysis.
Proton shape fluctuations and its relation to DIS
2018
We review the recent progress in extracting the proton fluctuating substructure by studying exclusive processes at HERA, and the applications of these developments in the interpretation of the LHC heavy ion data. The possibilities to extract the proton geometry directly from the LHC high-multiplicity proton-nucleus and proton-proton collision data is also discussed.
