High voltage conditioning of the electrostatic deflector of MARA

2016

Abstract MARA is a new recoil mass separator in the Accelerator Laboratory of University of Jyvaskyla (JYFL-ACCLAB) with a mass resolving power of 250 and an ion-optical configuration of QQQD E D M . In this paper the construction, control and conditioning of its electrostatic deflector are described. The deflector was designed for voltages up to 500 kV accross the gap, corresponding to a 3.6 MV/m field, to accomodate fusion reactions with inverse kinematics. Titanium electrodes with a beam dump opening in the anode are used. The conditioning procedure, which has been used repeatedly to take the deflector to 450 kV, is described, along with the safety systems and precautions that are in pla…

Phase-Imaging Ion-Cyclotron-Resonance technique at the JYFLTRAP double Penning trap mass spectrometer

2018

The Phase-Imaging Ion-Cyclotron-Resonance (PI-ICR) technique has been commissioned at the JYFLTRAP double Penning trap mass spectrometer. This technique is based on projecting the ion motion in the Penning trap onto a position-sensitive multichannel-plate ion detector. Mass measurements of stable 85 Rb $ ^{+}$ and 87 Rb $ ^{+}$ ions with well-known mass values show that relative uncertainties $ \Delta m/m \leq 7\cdot 10^{-10}$ are possible to reach with the PI-ICR technique at JYFLTRAP. The significant improvement both in resolving power and in precision compared to the conventional Time-of-Flight Ion Cyclotron Resonance technique will enable measurements of close-lying isomeric states and …

Der Zerfall des94Sr

1973

The nuclide94Sr was isolated by chemical separation methods after thermal neutron induced fission of235U. Its decay properties were investigated employing semi-conductor spectrometers and coincidence techniques. A half-life of 74.1±0.3 sec was found. Besides the 1428.3 keV γ-ray we found 4 new γ-rays which could be placed in a decay scheme comprising three excited states of94Y. The 1+ states in theuu-nuclides90,92,94Y and88,90,92Rb are compared.

Evidence for violation of the Gallagher-Moszkowski rules in154Pm

1972

The existence of two radioactive species of154Pm (1.8 min ground state and 2.65 min isomer) is established. The Nilsson model configurations assigned to these states give evidence against the validity of the Gallagher-Moszkowski coupling rules in154Pm.

Measurement of GEp/GMp via polarization transfer at Q2 = 0.4 GeV /c2

2001

The polarization transfer from longitudinally polarized electrons to protons in the elastic scattering p( e, e' p) has been measured around Q2 = 0.4 (GeV/c)2 with the three-spectrometer facility at the Mainz microtron MAMI. From this polarization transfer the ratio G Ep/(G Mp/μp) has been determined. The ratio is found to be slightly less than unity in agreement with recent results from other laboratories and from the Rosenbluth separation of cross-sections measured with unpolarized electrons.

Collinear fast atomic-beam laser spectroscopy at riken garis/igisol

1992

We have constructed a fast atomic-beam collinear laser spectroscopy system connected to the on-line isotope separator facility GARIS/IGISOL at RIKEN. This system is potentially powerful in studying refractory elements. To test the system, an off-line collinear experiment was made on stable Hf isotopes produced by means of laser ablation technique. For production of radioactive Hf isotopes, the use of the inverse kinematics of a fusion reaction,9Be(166Er,xn)175-xHf, was investigated. The radioactive isotope169Hf was successfully extracted from GARIS/IGISOL and accelerated up to 30 keV.

The influence of a bag deformation on N-N-scattering

1984

We present a model calculation to study the influence of an intrinsic nucleon deformation on the elastic scattering of nucleons. The nucleons are visualized as deformed sources for the exchange of bosons. Both static changes in the derived OBEP and the admixtures of rotational states give rise to only small effects even for large bag deformation, in addition, the two contributions tend to cancel each other.

Ca48+Bk249Fusion Reaction Leading to ElementZ=117: Long-Livedα-DecayingDb270and Discovery ofLr266

2014

The superheavy element with atomic number Z=117 was produced as an evaporation residue in the 48Ca+249Bk fusion reaction at the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA at GSI Darmstadt, Germany. The radioactive decay of evaporation residues and their α-decay products was studied using a detection setup that allowed measuring decays of single atomic nuclei with half-lives between sub-μs and a few days. Two decay chains comprising seven α decays and a spontaneous fission each were identified and are assigned to the isotope 294-117 and its decay products. A hitherto unknown α-decay branch in 270Db (Z=105) was observed, which populated the new isotope 266Lr (Z=103). The identification of the long-liv…

Messungen am Po214 γ-Spektrum mit einem Ge(Li)-Paar-Spektrometer

1969

Theγ-ray spectrum of Po214 between energies of 1.1 and 3.3 MeV was measured with a resolution of 4–5 keV. The energies and intensities of 69γ-rays are tabulated and an improved level scheme of the Bi214-Po214 decay is proposed.
