On the Road to FAIR: 1st Operation of AGATA in PreSPEC at GSI

2013

International audience; The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR), under construction at Darmstadt will provide intense relativistic beams of exotic nuclei at its Superconducting-FRagment Separator. High-resolution in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy will be performed in the HISPEC experiment, using the European Advanced GAmma-ray Tracking Array (AGATA). The PreSPEC-AGATA campaign is the predecessor of HISPEC and runs from 2012 to 2014 at GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH. Up to19 AGATA modules were used at GSI's F Ragment Separator in 2012. We report on the status of the experiment including preliminary results from performance commissioning.

Calculated solar-neutrino capture rate for a radiochemical Tl205 -based solar-neutrino detector

2020

Radiochemical experiments for low-energy solar-neutrino detection have been making headlines by exploiting the isotopes $^{37}\mathrm{Cl}$ and $^{71}\mathrm{Ga}$. Such a very low-threshold measurement of this type can also be performed using $^{205}\mathrm{Tl}$, which has been considered for decades for this purpose. A unique feature of this detector nucleus is the integration in the solar-neutrino flux over ${10}^{6}$ of years owing to its long-living daughter $^{205}\mathrm{Pb}$. In this Rapid Communication, we have calculated for the first time the cross section for the charged-current solar-neutrino scattering off $^{205}\mathrm{Tl}$. Taking into account the solar-model-predicted neutri…

Decay of a 19− isomeric state in Lu156

2018

A multiparticle spin-trap isomeric state having a half-life of 179(4) ns and lying 2601 keV above the yrast 10(+) state in Lu-156 has been discovered. The Lu-156 nuclei were produced by bombarding ...

Observation ofY(3940)→J/ψωinB→J/ψωKatBABAR

2008

We present a study of the decays B;{0,+}-->J/psiomegaK;{0,+} using 383x10;{6} BB[over ] events obtained with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. We observe Y(3940)-->J/psiomega, with mass 3914.6_{-3.4};{+3.8}(stat)+/-2.0(syst) MeV/c;{2}, and width 34_{-8};{+12}(stat)+/-5(syst) MeV. The ratio of B0 and B+ decay to YK is 0.27_{-0.23};{+0.28}(stat)-0.01+0.04(syst), and the relevant B0 and B+ branching fractions are reported.

A study of D*+π- production in semileptonic B decay

1995

Abstract In a sample of 1.5 million hadronic decays of the Z collected by the ALEPH detector, a search is carried out for the decays B → D 1 0 (2420)l − ν X and B → D 2 ∗0 (2460)l − ν X . The product branching ratio for D10 production is measured to be Br (b → B ) × Br( B → D 1 0 l − ν X) × Br(D 1 0 → D ∗+ π − ) = (2.04 ± 0.58 stat ± 0.34 syst ) × 10 −3 , and a 95% confidence level limit of Br(b → B ) × Br( B → D 2 ∗0 l − ν X) × Br(D 2 ∗0 → D ∗+ π − ) ≤ 0.81 × 10 −3 is obtained for D2∗0 production. A topological search sensitive to the processes above, but also to wide resonances that decay to D ∗+ π − and to non-resonant D ∗+ π − production is also carried out, yielding Br(b→ B ) ×Br( B →D…

An upper limit for the τ neutrino mass from τ → 5π(π0)ντ decays

1995

An upper limit for the tau-neutrino mass has been determined from the decay tau -> 5pi+- \nu_tau using data collected with the OPAL detector from 1991 to 1995 in e+e- collisions at \sqrt{s} ~ M_Z. A limit of 43.2 MeV at 95% CL is obtained using a two-dimensional method in the 5pi invariant mass and energy distribution from 22 selected events. Combining this result with OPAL's previously published measurement using tau+tau- -> 3h+- \bar{nu}_tau 3h-+ \nu_tau decays, a new combined limit of m_{nu_tau} < 27.6 MeV (95% CL) is obtained.

Final State Three-Body Coulomb Effects in thePb208(B8,Be7p)Pb208Coulomb Breakup Reaction

2003

We present results of the first calculation of the double differential cross section for the 208Pb(8B,(7)Bep)208Pb Coulomb breakup reaction which treats the postdecay acceleration of the ejectiles within a genuine three-body approach. From this we conclude that, in order to minimize postdecay Coulomb acceleration effects, experiments should be performed at as small as possible scattering angles, not too low 7Be-p relative energies, and high incident energy.

Polarimetry at MAMI

2013

Moller and Mott polarimeters have been compared concerning their measurement accuracy in a dedicated "spin dance" experiment. The results obtained with the different polarimeters at vastly different energy ranges were in agreement with each other within the given systematic uncertainties of a few percent. We discuss investigations of background conditions which may allow to reduce this important contribution to the uncertainties in the Mott polarimeter to a value below 1.0%.
